What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 32

Miles carefully scrolled through a few pages, his eyes reflecting approval and admiration as he looked at Kaia. "Kaia, these revisions are excellent. However, based on my initial review, while this plan is highly viable, the budget is going to exceed our estimates. Especially since you added more precise biomarker testing and long-term follow-ups. Prestige Medical Center will have to dedicate a massive amount of resources to this. We either need to adjust the priority of some testing phases, or... we need to find additional funding."

Kaia understood his hesitation. "I'll handle it. I'll submit a formal request to the company and figure out the budget."

Miles laughed, seeing the sheer determination in her eyes. "You really care about the future of The Aethelstan Group."

Kaia paused for a second before smiling. "I want my equity dividends. When it comes to money, I don't mess around."

Miles chuckled. "From what I hear, there are plenty of companies trying to poach you. Do you care more about the money, or the people?"

Kaia's heart seized as if it had been struck, the floodgates of her memories suddenly crashing open.

Everyone assumed she had married Finnian purely for financial gain. None of them knew she had fallen for him long before the contract was ever signed.

Years ago, at a biomedical industry summit, Kaia had stepped in for her sick mentor to present their team's data on traditional herbal remedy extractions. Standing on that stage, sweating from nerves, she had just wanted to get through the presentation as quickly as possible.

She never expected a man in a dark suit sitting in the front row to interrupt her.

Her mind had gone blank for a few seconds. When she looked over, she saw a young, striking, incredibly handsome man aggressively questioning the most innovative and controversial pharmacological assumption in her report.

Her heart had raced. Forcing herself to calm down, she used detailed data and theoretical models to perfectly dismantle his challenge.

Only later did she find out he was Finnian Sanders, the younger son of the Sanders family and the rising star of Aethelstan Biopharma.

"Miles, are you making fun of me again?" Kaia neatly deflected the awkward question.

Miles's dark eyes shifted slightly, and he didn't press the issue of her relationship with Finnian any further.
