Kaia shot Finnian an icy glare. This man really had no shame in making empty promises.
"Right," Finnian managed to say, nodding stiffly at his daughter.
Kaia rolled her eyes in absolute disgust and brushed past him into the hallway.
Finnian pulled the door shut and matched her brisk pace toward the elevators.
The moment the doors slid closed, isolating them, the anger he had been suppressing flared to life. He stared at her, his expression a tight mask of fury.
Kaia simply leaned against the mirrored wall, keeping her eyes fixed on the floor, ignoring him completely.
Seeing that she had no intention of explaining herself, Finnian lowered his voice, each word dripping with venom. "Don't you think you crossed a line today?"
Kaia looked up, her gaze perfectly calm. "What are you talking about? What line?"
The elevator chimed and the doors opened. Kaia stepped out, walking purposefully toward the hotel's secluded garden. Finnian shadowed her every step.
"Your little display with Simon Quinn at the gallery. Did you even bother to think about the consequences if someone took a picture of you two?"
Kaia stopped dead in her tracks and spun around. "What is so inappropriate about looking at art with a friend? And what exactly are these supposed consequences?"
"Kaia!" Finnian snapped, thrown off by her newly sharpened edge. She used to retreat into silence during their fights; now, she was actively fighting back.
"You are still my wife. You are still the daughter-in-law of The Sanders Family. You tell me what the consequences are."
Kaia turned away, taking a seat on a nearby wrought-iron bench. She crossed her arms defensively. "I don't know. Why don't you spell it out for me?"
Finnian gritted his teeth, knowing she was deliberately baiting him.
"If the press catches wind that Mrs. Sanders is sneaking around with a diplomat in Switzerland, do you think it will sound good? It will be a PR nightmare for the family, for the company, and even for Simon."
Kaia let out a dry, mocking laugh. "Finnian, your threats mean nothing to me anymore. I told you, my social life is my business. That was the deal. Stop trying to act like a controlling dictator."
Finnian's brow furrowed. She was completely impervious to his warnings.
"I'm not threatening you. I'm telling you to have some damn boundaries."
Kaia glared at him. "Fine. Then tell me exactly what scandalous thing Simon and I did today. Do you have any proof of us crossing a line?"
Finnian's lips pressed into a thin line. He had nothing to say.
Kaia continued, "We went to a public gallery. With my friend Celine. You call that sneaking around?"
Finnian's face darkened, furious at her flawless logic.
