What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 367

Kaia opened her mouth to speak, but another tear slipped down her cheek. She swiped it away with the back of her hand, but the crushing weight of sorrow inside her only seemed to swell.

In that single moment, it hit her. Every ounce of love and devotion she had poured into their marriage over the last seven years meant absolutely nothing to him.

Otherwise, why on earth would he ask such a question?

It was as if he believed her years of sacrifice and companionship were nothing more than a calculated transaction.

A visceral pain ripped through her. She wanted to scream, to break down and sob, but the tears dried up. Instead, she just stared at him with profound, soul-deep disappointment.

Met with that harrowing look, Finnian felt an uncomfortable twist in his gut. Her eyes were a dark well of grief and resentment.

"If you don't want to say, forget I asked." He offered a cynical half-smile, as if he had already figured out the punchline. "People don't get married without a motive. Whether you were after the prestige or the money, I'd say you got exactly what you bargained for."

"You're right," Kaia replied, her voice eerily quiet. "I was after the fame and the fortune, and I got everything I wanted. Thank you for the platform and the resources over the last seven years, Finnian. You were an excellent boss."

The words felt like two daggers plunging straight into Finnian's chest. His eyes narrowed dangerously as he locked his gaze onto hers, completely motionless.

"An excellent boss, huh? I guess that translates to a terrible husband. Got it. Message received." Though he claimed to accept it, his expression was practically carved from ice.

Kaia kept her gaze glued to the floor, officially done catering to his bruised ego.

"I don't know how other couples operate, but I'd say we functioned pretty well together over the last seven years, didn't we?" He clearly hadn't accepted it at all, pointlessly digging his heels in.

Kaia finally looked up, giving him a derisive scoff.
