What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 368

"So you just came in here to pick a fight with me?" Finnian asked, exasperated. Kaia had never been the argumentative type. She used to be so poised and quiet. Even when she was mad at him, she'd just shoot him a glare and walk away.

But today, she was out for blood.

"Is that not allowed?" Kaia shot back, her tone freezing. "If it weren't for Brynlee, I wouldn't waste a single breath on you."

It was a brutal thing to hear from the woman he'd been married to for years.

"Wouldn't waste a breath, but you still managed to march down the aisle and marry me? You've always been an ambitious one, Kaia." Anger pushed Finnian past the point of reason. He usually considered himself above petty jabs—a gentleman wouldn't sink to that level.

Kaia looked down, a self-deprecating smirk on her face. "I don't care what you say anymore. Maybe... maybe the only way I can tolerate talking to you is if I pretend you're a total stranger."

"A stranger? Are you kidding me? A stranger you've been sleeping with for the past seven years?" Finnian utterly despised her detached demeanor. It felt as if she could turn her back right now, disappear into the crowd, and never look his way again. It unsettled him deeply.

"People can share a bed for seven years and still not know a damn thing about each other. Do you even know where I have a mole on my body?" Kaia challenged him suddenly.

Finnian paused. His gaze swept over her as he searched his memory.

Seeing him draw a blank, a bark of laughter escaped her lips. It was a laugh born from the absolute pinnacle of pain, so pathetic it was almost comical, bringing tears to her eyes.
