"Brynlee! We're at school at the same time again!" Anna waved her little hands excitedly.
Brynlee immediately wiggled out of Finnian's arms. Finnian walked over to Simon. "Mr. Quinn is dropping off his kid early, too?"
Simon smiled and nodded. "It's the first day. Anna was excited, so we came a bit early."
The two kids were led inside by a teacher.
Watching them disappear into the building, the two men stood a few feet apart, sizing each other up.
"You seem to have a lot of free time lately, Mr. Quinn," Finnian started.
Simon met his gaze, his expression completely unfazed. "What are you trying to say, Mr. Sanders?"
Finnian smirked slightly. "I just want to know what exactly your game is."
Simon paused, then lowered his voice. "Mr. Sanders, I'm not your enemy. You don't need to scrutinize my actions."
"Right, not an enemy. Just the guy who happens to be around exactly when my wife needs someone," Finnian shot back directly, leaving zero room for Simon to dodge the subject.
Simon chuckled, looking at him with amusement. "Are you blaming others for doing well what you failed to do yourself?"
Finnian's brow furrowed, his face icing over instantly.
Simon looked right at him. "I'll be going now."
Watching Simon get into his car and drive away, Finnian's expression turned absolutely livid.
The exchange instantly reminded him of the scene from yesterday—Kaia and Simon sitting side-by-side under the sycamore tree.
In the car on the way to the office, Dexter briefed Finnian on his schedule for the day. Once the business was handled, Dexter asked, "Will you be visiting Ms. Lawrence at the hospital around noon?"
That reminded Finnian of the text. "Go to the hospital and arrange a transfer for Noelle."
"Why the sudden transfer?" Dexter asked in surprise.
"Noelle's current doctor is Kaia's friend. To prevent this from leaking out, it's better to move her to a different hospital," Finnian explained flatly.
Dexter blinked, looking like he wanted to say something but held back.
"Spit it out," Finnian commanded, catching the movement out of the corner of his eye.
Feeling inexplicably annoyed, Noelle took a screenshot of the message and forwarded it directly to Finnian. She didn't add a single word of context—just the picture.
Then she put her phone down and waited.
Sure enough, Finnian's reply came faster than she expected: "Don't run around."
Staring at those three words, the corners of Noelle's lips curled into a smile. She leisurely picked up her phone and typed, "Julian has asked me three times now. It's really rude if I keep saying no."
"Maybe I should just go. It's only lunch."
Finnian called her immediately. Noelle couldn't hide her smile.
She answered, and Finnian's stern voice came through. "The doctor ordered strict bed rest. Don't do anything stupid."
"But... Julian has asked me out so many times," Noelle replied, sounding conflicted and polite.
"Given your current condition, there is zero possibility between you and him. Unless he's willing to accept..."
"What if he is?" When Finnian trailed off, Noelle purposely probed. "If he doesn't mind, could I marry him while pregnant with this child?"
