Josephine couldn't hear a word of Noelle's self-defense. Her eyes were glued to Noelle's stomach, unable to fathom that two children—the flesh and blood of her late eldest grandson—were growing inside her.
"Are you truly carrying Rafael's children?" Josephine's voice trembled with disbelief.
"Yes!" Noelle sobbed, still crumpled on the floor, her voice laced with sorrow. "This is Rafael's gift to me. These babies are my most cherished treasure. Grandmother, please, I beg you, stop misunderstanding my relationship with Finnian."
Finnian reached out to grip her arm, his tone etched with concern. "Alright, Noelle, stop collapsing like this. Get up, your health is too fragile right now."
Still reeling from the shock, Josephine's gaze darted between their faces. Finally, she sighed. "Since you're pregnant, sit down."
"Thank you, Grandmother. I'm so sorry for making you worry. It's all my fault," Noelle murmured submissively, packing her voice with guilt and remorse.
Finnian remained silent, though a massive storm was brewing in his mind. Did everyone really suspect he harbored filthy, forbidden desires for Noelle?
The truth was, he had simply been looking out for her and caring for her just as he always had. Why had no one ever called his actions inappropriate before? Was it purely because he was now married that offering her support was suddenly deemed scandalous?
"Fine. Since you are carrying Rafael's children, they are children of the Sanders family. Focus on a safe pregnancy. Once they are born, this family will ensure they are raised properly. But you..." Josephine pointed a stern finger at her. "Remember this. From now on, whatever happens, do not go running to Finnian. He is a married man. In his life, his wife and daughter come first, not his sister. Do you understand?"
Josephine had to make the boundaries crystal clear right now. She wasn't going to let these two play dumb or feign ignorance any longer.
Finnian's brow furrowed tightly. Still shaken from the harsh confrontation, Noelle nodded frantically. "Yes, Grandmother, I understand. I won't recklessly ask Finnian for help ever again. If I need anything, I'll go to Elaine."
"If you had maintained a proper sense of boundaries in the first place, why would I have ever gotten angry? Both of you... start paying attention to how you act." Josephine waved a dismissive hand at Noelle. "You can leave now. As long as you don't cause any more misunderstandings, it's not as though I can't tolerate your presence in this house."
