"Look, if that's all, I'm leaving." Kaia snatched up her laptop and marched toward the door.
Finnian shot out of his chair, closing the distance in three strides, and grabbed her wrist.
Her skin was cool to the touch, clashing against the burning heat of his palm.
"Let go." Kaia was absolutely sick of his possessiveness.
Finnian wanted to argue, to say something, but the words died in his throat. Grabbing her like this made him feel like a desperate creep. He instantly released his grip.
Kaia stormed out, and this time, he didn't go after her.
Three days later at a major pharmaceutical networking summit, Silas brought Kaia as his plus-one. The striking pair turned more than a few heads. Several people initially mistook Silas for Finnian, only realizing their error when they noticed Silas lacked Finnian's notoriously cutthroat aura.
When yet another executive strolled over with a champagne flute to praise what a stunning married couple they made, Kaia could only laugh helplessly. Silas stood beside her, pressing a knuckle to his lips to hide his grin. He didn't even bother correcting them—people were blind, and he had no interest in wasting his breath clearing up the misunderstanding.
Once the crowd finally thinned out, Kaia leaned against a pillar, exasperated, her clear eyes analyzing Silas.
Her scrutiny made Silas's pulse kick into a higher gear, and a faint flush crept up his neck.
"What is Dr. Chavez staring at?" Silas asked. Despite his slight embarrassment, he held her gaze effortlessly.
Kaia paused, then smiled. "Why aren't you calling me your sister-in-law anymore?"
A deeply suggestive glint flashed in Silas's eyes. "Are you still my sister-in-law?"
Kaia froze, her bright eyes blinking in shock.
