What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 448

As soon as Elaine left, Finnian called Dexter into his office.

Dexter walked in to find Finnian standing by the window, an unlit cigarette pinched between his fingers. Dexter's heart skipped a beat. His boss had essentially quit smoking the day Brynlee was born. For him to even hold a cigarette meant his mood was catastrophically bad.

"I need you to do something..." Finnian paused, turning to face him. "Go buy a new dress and deliver it to Kaia's clinic."

Dexter was taken aback. "Mr. Sanders, I have no idea what size Dr. Chavez wears, and I definitely don't know her style."

Finnian froze, then snapped the cigarette in half. The loose tobacco fell through his fingers onto the floor. He bent down, picked it up, and tossed it into the trash can. "I'll buy it. You deliver it."

"Understood!" Dexter nodded.

There were several high-end luxury boutiques right across the street from The Sanders Tower. When Finnian and Dexter walked in, a saleswoman rushed over with a bright, welcoming smile. "Sir, are you looking for a gift for your girlfriend? We just got the new season's collection in."

It was painfully obvious that Finnian had never bought clothes for a woman before. He stood rigidly in front of the racks of colorful dresses, his jaw clenched tight, and shot a desperate look back at Dexter.

Dexter shrank back immediately, terrified his boss was about to ask for advice. The clothes he bought for his own girlfriend were nowhere near this expensive, and besides, every woman had different tastes.

Finnian's eyes scanned the racks back and forth, back and forth. Finally, he stepped forward. He vaguely remembered that Kaia preferred elegant, understated styles with soft colors. He pulled a medium-sized dress off the rack and handed it to the saleswoman. "I'll take this one."

The saleswoman smiled warmly. "We also carry a line of intimate apparel from our sister brand. Would you like to take a look, sir?"

Finnian paused, turning to look at the display. He had no idea where his mother's coffee had landed. If it had soaked through and ruined Kaia's lingerie, she would need a replacement for that too.
