What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 450

"Kaia, can you ask Finnian to look into this? Find out if this guy really works for them, and if the conglomerate actually backed that project?"

Looking at her gullible brother, who trusted people far too easily, Kaia let out a heavy sigh of absolute defeat.

"Leo, Finnian and I have already signed the divorce papers."

Leo froze instantly. "What? Since when?"

"Recently."

It was as if every ounce of strength had been completely drained from Leo's body. He slumped against the nearby brick wall, his mouth opening and closing soundlessly. His hands fumbled frantically for his cigarette pack, desperate for the nicotine to numb the crushing panic setting in.

"Kaia, you..." Leo instinctively tried to shift the blame. "Why wouldn't you tell me something this huge sooner?"

Kaia stared him down. "I mentioned it to you before."

Leo was instantly silenced. He remembered now—he was the one who had tried to talk her out of it.

Kaia crossed her arms. "Leo, I can't help you with him. I can ask around about the company, but that's it."

Leo looked completely hopeless. Where was he supposed to find the money to cover a debt this massive? He stared blankly into the distance, his voice cracking with desperation. "Kaia, can you please help me out? Can you lend me some money?"

Kaia looked at her brother. His eyes were full of remorse, but he was the type of person who only cried when the casket was already lowered. Now that he was staring into the grave, he was finally sorry.
