Chad smirked, his tone dripping with deliberate sarcasm. "I don't know how you, the guy in the middle of it all, see things, but as an outsider, I always thought Noelle had zero sense of boundaries. Even when she was still married to Rafael, we all noticed that the way she looked at you was way too affectionate. We just didn't dare say anything."
Finnian's heart jolted, a suffocating weight settling in his chest. He frowned deeply. "How is that possible? When she was my sister-in-law, the only time I ever saw her was in public settings."
"Is that so?" Chad scoffed. "Didn't you say you personally took care of her during her post-miscarriage confinement?"
When Quentin heard the words 'post-miscarriage confinement,' he couldn't hold it in and burst out laughing. "A brother-in-law taking care of his sister-in-law's post-miscarriage confinement? That's the best joke I've heard all year. Finnian, don't get mad, but when you told us that back then, I thought you had completely lost your mind. What kind of brother-in-law does that? It's ridiculous."
Finnian's handsome face flushed crimson, shame and embarrassment coloring his words. "It wasn't the kind of care you're thinking of. I just found a maid to cook for her, and if she needed anything, I had someone buy it and drop it off. Where are your minds going?"
"She had a husband, Finnian. Those are things a husband is supposed to handle. Did that honestly never cross your mind?" Quentin was genuinely baffled.
Finnian opened his mouth to speak, only to find he had lost his voice.
Chad lazily picked up his drink and took a sip. "Let's put the shoe on the other foot. If Kaia got sick, and some guy... let's say, Dr. Miles Kendrick, since he's a friend of yours and happened to have the time, decided to take care of her. So, he brings over chicken soup one day, drops off fruit the next, and shows up with flowers the day after that... As her husband, how would you feel about that?"
Finnian froze instantly, his fingers subconsciously curling into tight fists.
