What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 551

Finnian gazed into his grandmother's eyes and answered, "I didn't know who it was before, but now I do. It was me."

Josephine and Elaine looked utterly shocked. Finnian let out a self-deprecating laugh. "I never expected it to be me either. After all, we didn't see each other much before we got married, and every time we did meet, it was strictly about work. She never showed an ounce of warmth toward me."

Hearing this, a look of relief and joy washed over Josephine's face as she glared at her youngest grandson. "Kaia has always been reserved and modest. Did you really think she'd be like that seductress Noelle, constantly flaunting her charm and wishing every man in the world would revolve around her? A woman like Kaia is incredibly rare. Sigh. It's a shame you didn't have the fortune to keep her."

Elaine was completely consumed by regret. In her misguided effort to protect a manipulative woman, she had driven away her virtuous daughter-in-law. Right now, she wanted nothing more than to slap herself across the face.

Finnian's demeanor visibly dropped. He mocked himself softly, "Yes, I failed to cherish her. And I... I never cared enough. If I had just looked into who she had in her heart a few years ago, maybe things would be different."

"The result would have been exactly the same. With Noelle constantly orbiting you, she would have done whatever it took to destroy your relationship with Kaia. Kaia wanted something pure and untainted. By protecting Noelle at every turn, you made her see you as completely tainted. If you think you can wash your hands clean now, you're out of luck," Josephine said bluntly, hitting the nail right on the head.

Finnian stiffened, his voice low. "You're right. I'm unworthy."

Overwhelmed by guilt, Finnian lowered his head. "Grandmother, Mom... I bear responsibility for Rafael's death too. I failed him."

"Sigh, you were all so young back then, and Noelle was an incredibly calculating girl. You grew up with her, so it was perfectly normal for her to easily capture your hearts. What matters now is your logic and your choices. Now that you've seen her true colors, you have to stay far away from her. Don't let her entangle you again." Looking back, Elaine realized she had always thought it was a beautiful thing for the three of them to grow up together. The two brothers had learned responsibility, care, and protection because they had a little sister.

But thinking about it now, beneath that beautiful facade hid toxic needles that had slowly and methodically poisoned what should have been a happy family.
