What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 578

Her words plunged the hospital room into a suffocating, dead silence.

To Elaine, it felt like a sick, twisted cycle of karma that had finally come full circle. Everyone was somewhat to blame, yet everyone had an excuse. The only reality was the horrifying tragedy right in front of them.

"Mom, I can't look at her anymore. I'm leaving. As of today, I have no daughter." Her heart completely dead, Elaine turned on her heel and stormed out of the room.

Terrified by the finality in Elaine's voice, Noelle didn't dare say another word. She just squeezed her eyes shut.

Josephine had always been the shot-caller. She fully understood Elaine's agonizing grief and knew exactly what Noelle was trying to extort with the baby.

"You will carry this child to term, and you will hand it over to the Sanders family," Josephine ordered in an icy tone. "You'll take a lump sum payout and leave. We'll draft a binding contract. From that moment on, unless permitted by the family, you are permanently barred from visitation."

Noelle lay paralyzed. She knew she couldn't manipulate the matriarch. Biting her lip, tears streamed down her face. "Grandmother, I could never bear to part with my baby. I can't leave my child."

"Save your acting for someone who cares. The child isn't even born yet and you're already weaponizing it. You probably planned this from the very beginning. You knew Finnian would never divorce, so you backed yourself into a corner and ran off to Canada to get pregnant on purpose, didn't you?" Though aged, Josephine's eyes were piercingly sharp.

*Why won't this old hag just drop dead?* Noelle cursed viciously in her mind. *She's ancient, why hasn't she lost her mind yet?*

"Grandmother, I didn't..." Noelle looked up, tears perfectly highlighting her orchestrated look of pure devastation. "I just felt so guilty about Rafael. I promised him I would leave him an heir."

"You wrote that script yourself. Don't start believing your own lies," Josephine scoffed coldly, dragging a chair over and sitting down. "What I just gave you wasn't a negotiation. It was an order."

Josephine stared at her in sheer disbelief. After everything, the girl was still trying to compete with Kaia.

"To tell you the truth, you're not even fit to shine Kaia's shoes, let alone judge her character. She is a bright, pristine moon in the sky, and you are nothing but a rat hiding in a filthy gutter. In a rat's eyes, everyone is out to get them, and everyone is an enemy. But the moon's light is meant to illuminate the world, just like the medicines Kaia develops to save people from suffering." Josephine leaned back in her chair and delivered the verbal execution flawlessly.

Noelle had never been so viciously degraded in her entire life. Her face flushed violently, and she panted for air. The old woman's words were pure venom, impossible to swallow.

"Don't put her on a pedestal! If she didn't want something from him, why did she marry him?" Noelle mocked.

"Yes, she did want something. She wanted Finnian. Let me let you in on a little secret, Noelle," Josephine leaned in, her voice dropping. "Kaia has been secretly in love with Finnian for a very, very long time."
