What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 64

"Are you serious? Mr. Sanders is that ruthless? She's his wife, for God's sake..."

"Marriage doesn't equal true love. Didn't you see the way Mr. Sanders looks at her? Half the night, his eyes have been glued to Noelle. I heard he doesn't just play favorites at work. Behind closed doors... tsk, tsk, it's an open secret."

"Holy shit. That is wild. Sleeping with his dead brother's wife? Honestly, I kind of love the drama."

"You shouldn't say that. She did give the Sanders family a daughter..."

Another voice chimed in dismissively. "Exactly, a daughter. What good is that? You think a family like the Sanders is hurting for kids? Once the stepmom steps in, the stepdad follows. Wouldn't be surprised if the inheritance goes to his future kids with Noelle..."

Right at that moment, the stall door swung open. Kaia was pulling up Brynlee's tights, but the little girl's big, dark eyes were glaring furiously at the group of women touching up their makeup by the mirrors.

The women froze, making eye contact with Kaia's stone-cold expression. They looked like they had just seen a ghost.

Scrambling to pretend they were busy, they pushed past each other and practically bolted out the door.

"Mommy, were they saying mean things about us?" Brynlee might be small, but she was incredibly sharp. Because of her health issues, she was also highly sensitive to moods. Right now, she was huffing with genuine anger.

Kaia looked at her daughter. Her heart ached terribly, but she also knew that while Brynlee's body needed sheltering, her spirit needed to be strong.

Growing up in a top-tier family like the Sanders, if you raised a child to be a harmless, naive flower, they would just be torn apart by the wolves.

"What did you hear?" Kaia asked softly, taking her to the sink to wash her hands.

"They said Dad won't give his money to me. He's going to give it to a little brother or sister."

Kaia grabbed a paper towel and gently dried the tiny hands. "Don't listen to their nonsense. Dad loves you very much."

Miles was there today, too.

Brynlee clenched her little fists, marching straight toward the lounge.

"Brynlee's here!" Noelle instantly put on a sweet, gentle smile, waving her over. "Come here, sweetie. Aunt Noelle has candy for you."

Brynlee was nearly five, but due to limited physical activity and being a picky eater, she was smaller than average. She was tiny and slender, looking incredibly adorable.

Finnian looked at his daughter warmly and smiled. "Why are you running around all by yourself? Where's Mom?"

"Mom got her feelings hurt by some mean women. I think she might be crying." Brynlee put her hands on her little hips, puffing out her chest. Then, at the top of her lungs, she demanded, "Dad, I have a question! What does 'sleeping with his dead brother's wife' mean? Why did those people say they loved watching that kind of drama? Are they going to put it on TV?"
