What She Overheard in Her Own Marriage novel Chapter 89

Kaia was calmly taking notes, her profile completely expressionless.

Finnian rubbed his temples.

The meeting concluded without any final resolutions; further discussions would be required.

Kaia packed up her things. Silas picked up her laptop bag. "Let's head back to our office."

"Yeah." Kaia walked out of the boardroom side-by-side with him.

"Kaia!" Noelle called out from behind.

Kaia stopped and turned to see Noelle walking slowly toward her, a smile plastered on her face. "Your insights today actually had me breaking a sweat. But I learned a lot. It really seems like Veridian is the perfect place for you to finally showcase your true potential."

Kaia met her gaze, her voice freezing cold. "Just sharing my perspective. Make sure you get plenty of rest, Ms. Sanders."

Noelle smiled and nodded. "I will. For the past three days, Finnian and Mom have been taking such good care of me. Kaia, I really thought you'd come visit me in the hospital. I guess you've been quite busy."

Kaia's face hardened.

Pretending not to notice, Noelle put on a pleading look. "Finnian had a massive falling out with Grandmother over what happened to me. You're her favorite. Could you please put in a good word for me with her?"

Kaia's expression turned icy. "What exactly are you trying to say?"

Noelle jumped, acting as if she were startled, and covered her mouth. "I... I didn't mean anything by it! I just don't know how to get on Grandmother's good side, so I was hoping you could help me."

"Are you serious right now?" Kaia's eyes were sharp and piercing.

Noelle faltered. Beside her, Silas gave a mock-innocent smile. "Did you enjoy that performance you put on, Noelle? Next time, I'll get you a front-row seat to an actual theater. I'm sure you'd appreciate the professional competition."

Noelle snapped her gaze to Silas, her face stiffening.

Silas turned on his heel, and Kaia followed him toward the elevators.

Noelle stood rooted to the spot, watching them disappear. Her smile vanished, replaced by a cold sneer.

She turned and walked slowly toward Finnian's private elevator, her fingernails digging so hard into her palms they could have scratched the metal walls.

With the New Year approaching, the Sanders family held a holiday dinner.

Extended family members arrived early to drop off gifts. Josephine personally called Kaia's parents to invite them to the dinner. Jane and Warren Chavez happily accepted, arriving early with generous gifts in tow.
