Chapter One Hundred And Seventy–Five: She’s Pregnant.

The corridor outside the VIP recovery wing had grown unnaturally quiet. Only the occasional soft–soled footsteps of nurses and the distant, rhythmic beeping of monitors from nearby rooms pierced the
stillness.
The fluorescent lights overhead cast a pale, sterile glow over the polished floor, making the long hallway feel colder than it already was.
Cassienne had been rushed into a private room after she collapsed in the waiting area. Since then, nurses have moved in and out every few minutes, carrying charts, adjusting IV lines, and checking vitals.
Each time the door opened, every pair of eyes in the corridor snapped toward it, searching faces for any hint of news. But the nurses said nothing. They simply entered, worked in silence, and left again to
continue their rounds.
The waiting had become unbearable.
Joseph stood near the tall window at the end of the hall, arms crossed tightly over his chest, staring out at the city lights without really seeing them. Abigail and Sheila sat side by side on the row of chairs, fingers tightly intertwined in a quiet, wordless prayer.
Ray leaned against the wall a short distance away, arms folded, watching the corridor with the calm, assessing gaze of a surgeon who had seen too many long nights like this. And Garry stood beside him, unusually silent, hands in his pockets.
Aurora and Daisy sat together on the opposite bench, both visibly shaken. Aurora twisting the hem of her sweater, Daisy staring blankly at the floor.
And then there was Corren. He had not sat down once.
For nearly twenty minutes he had paced the length of the hallway, back and forth, back and forth, running a restless hand through his already disheveled hair. While Merrick watched him quietly for a long while before finally stepping forward. He placed a steady hand on Corren’s shoulder, stopping him mid–stride.
“You’re going to wear a hole in the floor,” Merrick said gently.
Corren stopped, but he did not smile. His gaze drifted toward the closed door of Cassienne’s room.
“I knew this would happen,” he said quietly.
Merrick studied him. “What do you mean?”
Corren exhaled slowly, shoulders dropping under the weight of the words.
“I didn’t expect the accident,” he admitted. “But I knew something would break her again.”
He looked down at the gleaming floor, voice barely above a whisper.
“I thought Dreston might hurt her. I thought he would take advantage of how much she loved him. That

he would walk away again–leave her shattered like before.”
Merrick remained silent, letting him speak.
“But this…” Corren continued, shaking his head slowly. “This is worse.”
He glanced toward the room where Dreston lay recovering under heavy sedation.
“Yes, he broke her heart again,” Corren said quietly. “But this time he didn’t choose to. Circumstances
chose for them.”
His voice softened further, almost defeated. “Maybe this is fate.”
Merrick frowned slightly. “Fate?”
“Maybe the heavens just don’t want them together.”
Merrick didn’t respond. There was nothing to say. They were all trapped in the same helpless waiting, caught between fear and hope, powerless to change what was happening behind those closed doors.
On one side of the corridor lay Dreston, unconscious once more, kept under medication to give his body
time to heal.
On the other side lay Cassienne, who had collapsed under the unbearable weight of everything she had just learned.
Everyone was worried about Dreston. But everyone was terrified for Cassienne.
Across the hallway, Ray quietly wrapped an arm around Daisy’s shoulders. She leaned into him without hesitation, resting her head against his chest. Aurora stood beside Garry now, his hand resting protectively against her lower back. No one spoke. They simply waited.
Minutes stretched into what felt like hours. Then the door to Cassienne’s room finally opened.
A doctor stepped out. He is in his mid–forties, calm expression, white coat immaculate. Immediately everyone stood. Joseph moved forward first.
“Doctor?”
The man nodded politely.
“She’s stable.”
A collective breath of relief swept through the group, shoulders dropping, hands unclenching.
“She fainted due to extreme emotional shock combined with physical exhaustion,” the doctor continued. “Her body had been under significant stress since last night.”
Joseph nodded slowly. “Is she awake?”
“No. We’ve given her a mild sedative to allow her body to rest.”
