Chapter One Hundred And Eighty–Nine: She Stopped Me.
The late afternoon sun filtered through the tall windows of the private VIP hospital room, reflecting across the polished floor.
Dreston lay propped against several pillows, his back supported by the elevated hospital bed. The thick bandage that had wrapped most of his head a day ago had now been replaced by a thinner strip of gauze along his temple.
The swelling around his face had reduced significantly, and the sharp lines of his handsome features were slowly returning.
Though he still looked weak, the striking composure that defined him was beginning to reappear.
A doctor stood beside the bed, reviewing the medical chart in his hand while a nurse finished checking the monitor attached to Dreston’s arm.
Across the room stood Joseph and Abigail, both watching anxiously.
The doctor finally looked up and gave a small nod.
“Mr. Tremont, your recovery is progressing faster than we expected.”
Joseph’s shoulders relaxed slightly.
“That’s good news, doctor,” he said quietly.
Abigail clasped her hands together, relief flickering across her face.
The doctor continued calmly.
“If there are no further complications, we may consider discharging you sooner than planned.”
Dreston listened but didn’t respond. His mind had been restless all morning with images and fragments of moments that refused to make sense.
The doctor studied him for a moment before asking another question.
“Are you still experiencing memory flashes?”
Dreston lifted his gaze.
“Yes.”
Joseph and Abigail exchanged a brief glance.
The doctor nodded.
“That’s normal in cases like yours. The brain often tries to reconnect memories after trauma.”
He paused before asking carefully,

“What exactly did you see?”
Dreston frowned slightly, as if trying to arrange scattered thoughts into something coherent.
“I saw… myself.” His voice carried uncertainty. “With my ex–wife.”
Joseph stiffened slightly. His wife remained quiet.
“In a lab.”
The doctor tilted his head.
“A laboratory?”
Dreston nodded slowly. “Yes. Underground.” His brow furrowed. “I remember it clearly. There’s a project there. Something I’ve been building.”
His voice dropped. “Something classified.”
Joseph’s eyes widened subtly. He knew exactly what his son was referring to.
The hidden research lab beneath Auralink.
Dreston continued slowly. “And Cassienne was there with me.” He shook his head. “That’s the part that doesn’t make sense.”
The doctor remained silent, letting him speak.
“That lab is restricted,” Dreston said quietly. “Only a few people even know it exists.”
His eyes darkened with confusion. “Even the woman I love didn’t know about it.” He looked down at his hands. “So why would I take my ex–wife there?”
The question hung heavily in the room.
Joseph looked away. Abigail lowered her gaze.
But Dreston continued, frustration creeping into his voice. “And it didn’t stop there.”
The doctor remained calm.
“What else did you see?”
Dreston hesitated before answering. “I saw myself getting close to her.” His jaw tightened. “Too close.”
His voice carried discomfort now. “But it doesn’t make sense.” He shook his head again. “There’s no way I would do something like that.”
The doctor observed him carefully.
Dreston continued, trying to piece the memory together.

“She stopped me.”
Joseph listened intently.
Dreston spoke slowly, recalling the moment. “I heard her say something.”
His voice softened slightly.
“She said I would be cheating on Tina… and that she would be cheating on Corren.”
The room grew quiet.
“So that means…” Dreston continued, thinking aloud, “…we must have been friends again.”
He sighed heavily. “And I must have crossed the line.”
His expression hardened with regret. “She tried to stop me.”
The doctor finally stepped forward.
“Mr. Tremont.”
Dreston looked up.
“It’s important that you don’t force these memories.”
His tone remained professional.
“Your brain suffered trauma during the accident. When memories return in fragments, trying to analyze them too deeply can cause unnecessary stress.”
He placed the chart aside.
“For now, the best thing you can do is allow your mind to recover naturally.”
Dreston frowned slightly.
“But-”
“You need rest,” the doctor interrupted gently.
“Let your brain heal. The memories will come back on their own.”
After a moment of silence, Dreston nodded reluctantly.
The doctor gave Joseph and Abigail a brief look before turning to leave.
“Make sure he rests.”
Then he walked out of the room. The door closed softly behind him.
For a moment, the room remained silent. Joseph stepped forward first.

“Son,” he said calmly, “listen to the doctor.”
Dreston exhaled slowly.
Abigail moved closer to the bed and leaned down to kiss his forehead gently.
The thin bandage on his temple brushed against her lips.
When she pulled back, she noticed how much better he looked compared to yesterday.
His complexion had regained color. The bruising on his face had faded slightly.
The familiar charm and striking presence that defined Dreston Tremont was beginning to return.
Abigail smiled softly. “You’re healing well.” Then she spoke gently. “So I will advise you to keep to yourself for now and not think or worry too much.”
But Dreston interrupted her immediately. “That’s the problem.” His voice was tense. “How can I not worry?”
He looked at both of them. “I just learned that I’m responsible for my ex–wife’s pregnancy.”
Joseph remained silent, but his frustration grew. “And from the flashes I’m seeing…” His jaw tightened. ” It looks like I cheated.”
Abigail’s heart sank.
Dreston continued. “I betrayed the woman I love.”
He ran a hand through his hair. “And Cassienne tried to stop it.” He looked down again, regrets filling his voice.
“I crossed the line first.”
