When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 218

Chapter Two Hundred And Eighteen: Get The Car Ready.

The following days. The Auralink boardroom was unusually tense that morning. It was not an official meeting. No formal notice had been sent out, and yet, a number of executives had gathered quietly, seated around the long polished table. Some of them avoided eye contact. Others leaned forward, their expressions serious, as if they had come prepared for something important.

One of the senior executives cleared his throat.

We cannot continue like this,he began, as he spoke in a low voice. The company is being led based on emotions, not logic. And we all know what is causing it.

A few heads nodded, while others remained silent.

You are referring to Cassienne, another executive said.

Yes,” the first man replied. Ever since she returned, things have changed. The CEO is no longer making decisions the way he used to. Everything is influenced by her presence.

That is not entirely true,a woman seated near the end of the table said calmly. If anything, the company has improved since her return. The numbers speak for themselves.

A few murmurs of agreement followed her words.

But the opposition did not back down. That does not change the fact that Mr. Tremont is not fully recovered, another voice added. We all know about the accident. We all know about his memory issues. Are we really going to pretend that this is not affecting his judgment?

The room grew quieter. Since that was the real concern. Though not everyone believed it. But enough of

them did.

And what exactly are you suggesting?” someone asked.

That we correct the mistake that was made, the first executive replied. Miss Ackley should not have been dismissed. She understands the company, she has been with the CEO for years, and she knows how things are meant to run. If anyone should be standing beside him right now, it should be her.

That statement drew mixed reactions because some looked uncomfortable, and others frowned.

She is manipulative, one of the executives said bluntly. We have all seen it. If you are suggesting we replace Cassienne with Tina, then I strongly disagree.

So do I,another added.

But the voices in support did not disappear. You are all ignoring the bigger picture, the first man insisted. This is not about personal feelings. This is about stability. If the CEO is not in the right condition to lead, then we have to step in.

And you think bringing Tina back will fix that?the woman asked sharply.

The room fell silent again. The division was clear now. Some were standing firmly behind Cassienne. Others were beginning to lean toward something else.

Something dangerous.

Dreston sat in his office, his jaw tight as he listened to the report.

Every word he heard only made the tension in his chest grow stronger. And by the time the call ended, his expression had darkened completely. Without hesitation, he reached for his phone and dialed his

father.

Joseph picked up almost immediately. Dreston.

I just received a report about what is going on within the board,Dreston said. They are questioning my decisions. They are questioning Cassienne.

There was a brief pause on the other end. I expected this,Joseph replied calmly.

Dreston leaned back slightly in his chair.

What is your take on it?Joseph asked.

Dreston did not hesitate. I know Tina is behind this,he said. She has been trying to manipulate her way back into the company. That is why I removed her before she could corrupt more people.

Joseph let out a quiet breath. She has already started,he said. What you are seeing now is the result of that. Influence does not disappear overnight. It spreads.

Dreston’s grip on his phone tightened slightly. Then what is the way forward?he asked.

The way forward is simple,Joseph replied. Remove the corruption. Identify those who are aligning with her agenda and remove them. You cannot rebuild order without clearing out what is already compromised.”

Dreston was silent for a moment. Then he nodded slowly, even though his father could not see him. I

understand.

Do not hesitate,Joseph added. If you allow this to continue, it will grow worse.

I won’t,Dreston said firmly.

When the call ended, he remained still for a few seconds. Then he stood up. His decision was made.

The emergency meeting was called within the hour. All board members were present. The atmosphere in the room was heavy as Dreston walked in. His presence alone commanded silence.

He took his seat at the head of the table and looked around the room. No one spoke.

And he did not waste time. I have been informed,he began, his voice calm but firm, that there are concerns about my leadership and the role of my CTO.

A few people shifted in their seats.

I will make this simple,he continued. How many of you are in support of removing Cassienne from her position and replacing her with Tina?

The question landed like a weight. At first, no one moved. But slowly, four hands went up.

Only four, out of twenty.

Dreston looked at them carefully and took note of each face. Then he nodded once. Thank you,he said.

There was a brief pause. Then he spoke again. You are all dismissed.

The four executives froze.

What?” one of them asked.

You are no longer part of this company,Dreston said, his tone unchanged. “Your services are terminated effective immediately.

The room erupted into stunned silence. No one had expected it to happen so quickly, and so decisively.

Dreston stood up. This company will not be run by manipulation or divided interests,he said. If anyone else shares the same view, you are free to leave.

No one moved. The message was clear. And the meeting ended.

Back in his office, Dreston felt silence returned. He walked to his desk and placed his hands on it, letting

out a slow breath. For a moment, everything felt settled.

Then it happened. A memory that was not clear. It was not complete. But strong enough to shake him.

He saw a box. A very small, familiar one. And he saw himself holding it. He saw a younger version of himself, and he heard voices. But the words were not clear.
