When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 230

Chapter Two Hundred And Thirty: Protect It.

The Tremont mansion had never been this loud. From the moment the news reached the family that Cassienne had started showing early pregnancy symptoms, everything changed. What had once been a calm and controlled household quickly transformed into something alive, full, and nearly uncontainable. By midmorning, the house was already bustling with activity. The sound of footsteps echoed across the polished floors while voices overlapped in different corners, and the scent of freshly prepared meals drifted from the kitchen into the wide living spaces. Cassienne sat at the center of it all, or at least she tried to, but no matter where she moved, someone was always there.

Don’t sit like that, dear. Your back needs proper support,Abigail insisted.

Before Cassienne could even adjust herself, Mrs. Rawlings appeared with a tray. You need to eat something warm. This will help settle your stomach.

Cassienne blinked in surprise. I just ate.

That was over an hour ago,” Mrs. Rawlings replied firmly as she placed the tray down.

From the other side of the room, Sheila chimed in. “She is right. You cannot skip meals now because it is not just about you anymore.

Cassienne looked between them, her lips parting as if she wanted to argue, but no words came out. Jessica, who had been lounging comfortably nearby, let out a soft laugh.

I think you should just surrender, she said. There is no winning against all of them.

Nora stood quietly beside her sister, watching everything unfold. Unlike Jessica, she said nothing, but her gaze lingered on Cassienne longer than usual. There was no hostility in her expression this time, only observation.

Cassienne let out a small breath and leaned back. I am not fragile, she said gently.

You are pregnant,Abigail corrected immediately. That is enough reason.

The room fell into a brief silence before soft laughter followed. Cassienne could not help but smile. It was overwhelming, but it was also incredibly warm.

From a distance, Dreston stood watching. He leaned against the doorway with his arms folded across his chest, his gaze fixed on Cassienne as the women circled around her like she was something to be guarded at all costs. He simply observed the way she smiled despite being overwhelmed, the way she tried to respond to everyone at once, and the way her hand occasionally rested on her abdomen without her even realizing it.

Something settled quietly in his chest, a kind of peace he had not known he was missing. Joseph stepped up beside him.

Are you enjoying this?Joseph asked.

Dreston glanced at him briefly before looking back at Cassienne. I am.

Joseph followed his gaze. This is what a home should feel like.

Dreston nodded slowly. Yes.

There was a pause between them before Joseph spoke again, his voice lower this time. Happiness like thisprotect it.

Dreston did not respond immediately, but the words stayed with him. He understood them more than Joseph could possibly know.

Dreston!Jessica’s voice cut through his thoughts. He looked up to see her looking amused. Come and save your wife. They are overwhelming her.

Dreston pushed himself off the wall and walked toward the group.

I heard that,Abigail said, narrowing her eyes slightly at Jessica.

Good,Jessica replied with a grin.

By the time Dreston reached Cassienne, she looked up at him as if he had arrived at exactly the right moment. Help me,she said quietly, a hint of laughter behind her plea.

Dreston smiled faintly. I thought you said you were not fragile.

I am not,she replied, but this is too much.

That earned another round of laughter from the others. Dreston reached out and gently took her hand. She needs to rest,he said calmly.

She has been resting,Abigail countered.

Not enough,he replied.

Mrs. Rawlings nodded in agreement. “That is true.”

Cassienne looked between them again, feeling almost helpless. This is not fair, she muttered.

Dreston leaned slightly closer to her and said softly, Come.He helped her to her feet, his hand steady at her back as he guided her away from the center of the room. This time, no one tried to stop him.

The hallway was much quieter. The noise from the living room softened as they walked further away, leaving the chaos behind. Cassienne let out a long breath.

I love them, she said, but I feel like I am being managed.

Dreston chuckled softly. You are.

She glanced at him. And you are part of it.

I am the one rescuing you,he corrected.

She smiled. That depends on where you are taking me.

To rest,he said simply.

She stopped walking. I have already rested.

Dreston turned to face her fully. You need more.

Cassienne looked at him for a moment. There was no argument left in her, just a quiet understanding. Okay, she said softly.
