Chapter Two Hundred And Fifty–Four: Goodnight DT.
“I am so proud of you, Cass.”
Dreston’s voice was low and warm as it brushed against her lips. His fingers held her chin gently, guiding her face toward his. His eyes searched hers, not just with admiration, but with relief,
“You surprised me,” he continued softly. “I was worried for nothing. All this time, I kept thinking about Tina’s deadline, about how to handle everything without hurting you… and yet, you were already ahead of it.”
Cassienne looked at him, her gaze steady but filled with emotion. She could see it now, clearly. The fear he had tried so hard to hide. The weight he had been carrying alone.
Before she could speak, his lips found hers.
The kiss was not rushed. It was not driven by urgency or desire alone. It was slow, deliberate, and full of meaning. His tongue brushed gently against hers, and she welcomed him without hesitation.
It was a kiss of reassurance and of belonging. It was quiet promises spoken without words.
When they finally pulled apart, Cassienne let out a soft breath, her fingers still resting lightly against his chest.
“When you asked me if I trusted you,” she began, her voice calm but thoughtful, “I knew something was wrong. I could feel it. And I knew Tina was behind it somehow.”
She paused briefly, her eyes softening. “But I was upset,” she admitted. “Not because you were protecting me… but because you didn’t trust me enough to let me stand with you.”
Dreston shook his head immediately. “It’s not that I don’t trust you, Cass,” he said, his voice firm but gentle. “I trust you more than anyone. That is exactly why I was afraid.”
His hand moved slowly, resting against her stomach with care.
“I was thinking about you… and our child,” he continued. “I didn’t want anything to touch either of you. Not fear. Not pressure. Nothing.”
His touch was light, almost reverent. “This child must be safe,” he said quietly. “No matter what we are dealing with, that comes first.”
Cassienne’s expression softened completely. “We will protect our child,” she said, her voice steady with certainty. “And we will handle Tina together.”
She placed her hand over his, pressing it gently against her stomach.
“She is nothing,” Cassienne added. “And I will follow your lead for now. But if this drags on for too long, by the time the child is born… if she continues to push… I won’t stay silent forever.”
Her eyes held his. “You know my mother,” she continued. “When that time comes, she will stand for the

truth. And when she does, no one will be able to twist it.”

Dreston listened carefully, then pulled her closer without hesitation. His arms wrapped around her tightly, protectively, as though shielding her from something unseen. “It won’t get to that,” he said quietly against her hair. “I will find a way before then.”
Cassienne leaned into him, her arms slipping around his waist. For a while, neither of them spoke. They simply held each other. The warmth between them felt real, grounding, and necessary. At that moment, the outside world did not matter. Not Tina. Not the threats. Not the uncertainty ahead. Just them.
After a while, Dreston shifted slightly, his hands moving gently to her shoulders. “You need to rest,” he said softly.
Cassienne looked at him for a second, then nodded. “Alright.”
He guided her toward the bed, adjusting the pillows carefully before she lay down. He made sure she was comfortable, pulling the blanket over her with quiet attention.
Then he moved to his side of the bed and lay down beside her.
They turned toward each other naturally, their faces close, their eyes meeting in the soft light of the room. For a moment, it felt peaceful.
“When is the competition ending?” Dreston asked.
“Next week,” Cassienne replied. “That should be the final round.”
“Good,” he said.
Cassienne raised a brow slightly. “Why?”
Dreston smiled faintly. “Because after that, I want you to take a break. A real one. You have been pushing yourself too hard lately, and it is not good for you.”
His gaze softened as he looked at her. “Or for the baby.”
Cassienne smiled gently. “I will think about it,” she said.
Dreston studied her face for a moment longer. There was something about her that still amazed him. It was her strength and clarity. Her ability to stand beside him without hesitation, even when she did not have all the answers.
He still could not fully understand how he had failed to see her before. All those years, all those moments. The girl he had loved when they were younger… she had always been right there. And he had not recognized her. Yet she had stayed. She had endured and loved him anyway.
“You’re thinking again,” Cassienne said softly, pulling him out of his thoughts. “You should sleep.”
Dreston smiled. “Good night, my love,” he said.
“Good night, DT,” she replied.
