Chapter Two Hundred And Eighty–Eight: Emotionally Unstable

The news reached Dreston Tremont less than ten minutes after the incident at Nerox Technology had begun. He had been in the middle of an important strategy meeting at Auralink Systems, surrounded by top executives and board members, when Steve quietly slipped into the sleek conference room and handed him a phone without a word. At first, Dreston didn’t understand the unusual tension etched across his assistant’s face. Then he glanced down at the screen and saw the livestream.
His expression changed instantly.
The entire room fell into a heavy silence. Every executive seated around the long, polished conference table watched as Dreston rose abruptly from his chair, the movement sharp and decisive.
On the phone screen, Tina Ackley was visible outside Nerox headquarters, screaming Cassienne’s name at the top of her lungs while a swarm of reporters circled her like hungry vultures, microphones thrust forward and cameras flashing relentlessly.
Dreston’s jaw tightened dangerously, a muscle ticking in his cheek as cold fury rolled through him. “She went to Nerox?” he asked, his voice deceptively quiet.
Steve nodded once, his own face grave. “The police are already involved.”
That was all Dreston needed to hear. He grabbed his suit jacket from the back of his chair. And instantly, he strode out of the conference room without offering a single explanation or apology. No one stopped
him. No one even dared to speak.
Because everyone present saw it clearly–the usually composed and calculating CEO of Auralink Systems was furious in a way they had rarely witnessed. His presence seemed to crackle with restrained power as he disappeared down the hallway.
Less than thirty minutes later, a convoy of blacked–out vehicles pulled up aggressively outside Nerox Technology headquarters. The dramatic arrival alone triggered another wave of frenzied attention around the towering glass building. Employees near the lobby instinctively turned toward the entrance as security teams moved into position. Then Dreston Tremont walked in.
Tall, impeccably dressed, and dangerously handsome, his presence commanded the entire space. But what stood out most was not his appearance–it was the visible tension radiating from him, the rigid set of his shoulders, and the dark intensity in his eyes.
Some employees lowered their voices immediately. Others stared openly, unable to look away. Because no matter how powerful Jeff Sandler was within these walls, Dreston Tremont was still Dreston Tremont -the CEO of Auralink Systems, one of the most influential and formidable men in the global tech industry. And right now, he looked deeply worried.
Not for his reputation.
Not for the growing scandal. He was worried for Cassienne.

The whispers began almost instantly, spreading like wildfire through the lobby.
“He came himself?”
“He looks furious.”
“Doesn’t he hate her?”
“No man looks like that over a woman he hates.”
Dreston ignored every single word. His steps never faltered as Steve led him directly toward one of the private executive lounges upstairs, the elevator ride passing in heavy silence.
Inside the executive lounge, the atmosphere was calmer than the chaos outside, but still thick with tension. Two police officers sat across from Cassienne Rhodes on a plush sofa, while Jeff Sandler stood nearby with his arms crossed, observing everything with a sharp, calculating gaze. Cassienne sat quietly, a glass of water untouched on the low table in front of her, her posture composed despite the morning’s events.
One of the officers looked at her with professional patience. “Miss Rhodes, we only need a formal statement regarding today’s harassment incident.”
Cassienne shook her head lightly. “I already told you,” she said calmly, her voice steady. “I’ll speak after Mr. Tremont arrives.”
Jeff glanced at her briefly but remained silent. Truthfully, he was curious–very curious. The more he observed Cassienne and Dreston from a distance, the less the public narrative made any sense. These two people clearly still loved each other. It showed in every reaction, every protective instinct. So why exactly had Dreston supposedly left his wife for someone like Tina Ackley? Jeff simply could not
understand it.
Before the silence could stretch any further, the lounge door opened, and Dreston walked in.
Cassienne stood up so quickly it surprised even herself. For a heartbeat, neither of them spoke. Then Dreston crossed the distance between them in a few powerful strides. His hands settled firmly around her waist as he pulled her against his chest–tightly, protectively, possessively.
Without caring who was watching, he pressed a slow, tender kiss to her forehead, lingering there as if drawing strength from the contact.
“Are you okay?” he asked quietly, his voice low and intimate.
Cassienne nodded softly against him, her fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. “I’m fine.”
Dreston still didn’t let go immediately. His eyes moved carefully over her face, scanning every feature as though personally checking for any sign of harm. Only after he had convinced himself that she was truly unharmed did some of the rigid tension finally ease from his powerful frame.
The two police officers exchanged silent glances. They were clearly confused–very confused. The media had painted this marriage as dead and buried, yet the man standing before them looked deeply,

undeniably in love with his wife.
Even Jeff noticed it again: the raw protectiveness, the instinctive way Dreston positioned Cassienne slightly behind him afterward without even realizing he was doing it.
No. Something about this entire situation was deeply wrong.
One of the officers cleared his throat lightly. “Mr. Tremont.”
Dreston finally turned his attention toward them, though one hand remained at the small of Cassienne’s
back.
“We were trying to take Miss Rhodes‘ statement regarding the harassment incident downstairs,” the officer explained.
Dreston nodded once before guiding Cassienne back to the couch and sitting beside her. His hand immediately found hers, fingers intertwining naturally–almost possessively.
“She can proceed,” he said calmly.
The officers exchanged another quick glance before continuing.
“Miss Rhodes,” one began carefully, “do you believe Miss Ackley intended to physically harm you today?”
Cassienne remained calm. Too calm. “She was emotionally unstable,” she replied carefully. “But she never physically touched me.”
Dreston frowned slightly beside her. He clearly did not like that measured answer.
The officer nodded slowly. “And the gala incident?”
Silence settled briefly in the room.
Cassienne lowered her eyes for a moment before speaking. “I believe emotions were heavily involved,” she said honestly. “But I don’t want to accuse anyone without certainty.”
Jeff watched her quietly from across the room. Once again, he understood exactly why people respected Cassienne Rhodes so deeply. Even now, in the middle of chaos, she remained graceful, controlled, and measured. Most people in her position would have destroyed Tina publicly by now. Yet Cassienne still
chose restraint.
The officer took a few more notes before finally closing the file. “We’ll proceed carefully from here,” he assured them. “But for now, increased security around Miss Rhodes would be advisable.”
“That’s already handled,” Dreston replied immediately, his tone leaving no room for doubt.
