“I’m serious,” Celeste insisted, gently turning her daughter’s face from side to side for inspection. “Look at you. You’re tired. Have you been sleeping enough?”
Daisy could not stop the genuine smile that appeared on her lips. God, she had missed this woman. Unlike many elite women in their social circle who maintained a cool distance from their children, Celeste Noah loved loudly, warmly, and completely. And despite Daisy already being a successful, independent woman working alongside powerful figures like Corren Thornwyck at Coral Reach Systems, her mother still looked at her like she was a little girl returning home from school.
Celeste touched her hair gently, smoothing an imaginary stray strand. “You should stay longer this time. At least a few weeks.”
Daisy linked arms with her mother naturally as they walked together toward the mansion. “If I stay too long, Father will start assigning me board meetings again and dragging me into every strategy session.”
Celeste laughed softly, the sound light and musical. “He probably still plans to. You know how he is.”
The interior of the Noah mansion remained just as elegant and timeless as Daisy remembered. Tall vaulted ceilings, sparkling crystal chandeliers, warm ambient lighting, and fresh flowers placed beautifully across different corners of the house. Family portraits in gilded frames decorated parts of the walls while soft classical music played faintly from somewhere deeper inside the mansion.
Despite the enormous wealth surrounding the estate, the house still felt lived–in and comfortable, like a real home rather than a museum. Several staff members greeted Daisy warmly as they passed through the grand foyer. Most of them had known her since childhood.
“Welcome home, Miss Daisy.”
“Good afternoon, Miss Daisy.”
“We missed you so much.”
Daisy greeted them back naturally and kindly. Unlike many heirs from powerful families, she had never treated the household staff with anything less than respect.
As they climbed the sweeping staircase together, Celeste glanced carefully at her daughter, her sharp maternal instincts picking up on every subtle shift. “You seem distracted, my love.”
Daisy looked away immediately. “I’m fine.”
But mothers always knew.
Celeste stopped walking halfway up the staircase and gently touched her cheek, forcing eye contact.” What happened?”
For a brief second, Daisy almost answered honestly. Almost. Because the truth was embarrassing–she

missed a man she had never officially accepted, and now that same man was engaged to someone else.
Instead, Daisy forced a small, practiced smile. “Nothing serious, Mother. Just work stress.”
Celeste studied her quietly for a long moment before sighing softly. “You’ve grown beautifully,” she murmured with a touch of wistfulness. “But sometimes I still wish you talked to me like you used to
when you were younger.”
That sentence touched Daisy unexpectedly, stirring something tender in her chest. She leaned forward. slightly and hugged her mother again, holding on a little tighter than usual. “I missed you too.”
Celeste smiled warmly and kissed her forehead. “There’s my girl.”
Later that evening, the Noah family gathered for dinner inside the formal dining hall. Daisy sat beside her mother while her father occupied his usual authoritative seat at the head of the table.
Richard Noah carried the kind of commanding presence that naturally silenced a room without any effort. Calm. Controlled. Powerful.
Dinner started peacefully enough–light business conversations, questions about Coral Reach Systems, and comments about Southvale’s rapidly growing tech market. But Daisy noticed something almost immediately. Her father was unusually calm tonight. And somehow, that worried her more than if he had
been stern.
Finally, after dinner had progressed further, Richard Noah placed his utensils down neatly and lifted his sharp eyes toward his daughter.
“The Virelli family reached out formally this morning.”
The room became quiet instantly.
Daisy’s fingers paused around the stem of her wine glass.
Her father’s voice remained calm, measured, and entirely businesslike. “They requested a union between both families.”
Silence followed. Then slowly, Daisy laughed. Not because it was funny, but because surely this conversation could not be real. “You mean marriage?” she asked lightly, though her voice had already lost its warmth.
“Yes.”
Her smile disappeared immediately.
Richard Noah leaned back slightly in his chair, his posture relaxed but commanding. “The Virelli family is one of the most powerful technology dynasties in the world.”
“I know who they are.”
“Then you should understand the importance of this alliance.”
