When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 296

Chapter Two Hundred And NinetySix: Someone Is After Me

It was very early in the morning. Dreston and Cassienne walked out of the doctor’s office together. They had come for her routine prenatal appointment, the latest in a series of careful checkups to monitor both mother and baby. The news had been excellentstrong heartbeat, perfect growth, and Cassienne’s health remaining stable despite the lingering stress of recent events.

A few nurses passing through the hallway immediately slowed their steps after recognizing the couple. It was difficult not to stare.

Dreston Tremont walked beside his wife with one hand carrying her handbag and the other resting firmly at the small of her back, guiding her forward with quiet protectiveness, as though she might disappear if he let go for even a second. The instinct had become second nature lately, woven into every movement

he made around her.

Cassienne noticed people watching them. She finally looked up at him with soft amusement dancing in her eyes. People are watching, DT,she murmured quietly, a teasing smile tugging at her lips. I can walk perfectly fine, and I can carry my own bag.

Dreston didn’t even look the slightest bit embarrassed. You’re my responsibility now.

Cassienne rolled her eyes immediately, though the gesture lacked any real irritation. “That sounds extremely possessive.”

I’m your husband,” he replied calmly, his voice low and steady. “I earned the right.

Cassienne tried not to smile. She tried. But she failed completely. The small, affectionate curve of her lips made several nurses nearby exchange knowing glances and soft whispers. Because after all the public drama, the fake engagement scandals, the media chaos, and the endless speculation- these two people still looked painfully, undeniably in love with each other.

Cassienne sighed softly as they continued walking toward the private exit reserved for highprofile patients. The people watching us won’t see it that way. They’ll twist it into another headline by tonight.

Dreston finally glanced down at her, and the look in his eyes softened instantly, filled with quiet determination. I don’t care what people think anymore.”

That simple answer touched her more deeply than she expected. Because for the first time in a long time, Dreston genuinely looked done with pretending, done with playing games for the sake of appearances or strategy. He was focused only on her, on their child, and on the life they were rebuilding together.

Outside the hospital, several black security vehicles already waited near the discreet private entrance while Steve stood nearby, speaking quietly into his earpiece as he coordinated the team. The moment he saw them approaching, he moved forward efficiently to open the car door.

Everything looked normal. Controlled. Safe.

Until suddenly, a woman rushed forward from the opposite side of the entrance, her voice cutting

through the calm morning air.

Dreston!

The bodyguards reacted instantly. Several men stepped forward to form a firm barrier while others closed ranks around Cassienne protectively, their movements swift and practiced.

Tina?Cassienne whispered in surprise, her hand instinctively moving to rest over her belly.

Tina Ackley looked nothing like the polished, calculated woman from before. Her hair was disheveled, strands falling messily across her face. Her makeup appeared rushed and smudged, and genuine panic shone brightly in her wide, redrimmed eyes.

I’m not here to make trouble,Tina cried quickly, struggling against the security barrier that kept her at a distance. Please, Dreston, I just need to speak with you. Just for a minute.

Dreston’s expression hardened immediately, his jaw tightening into a sharp line.

But Tina continued desperately, her voice trembling. I know who’s after your company. Pleaseyou need to help me. This is bigger than you think.”

The bodyguards still refused to let her move any closer. And the moment Dreston felt Cassienne tense beside him, his entire focus shifted. Without another word, he guided his wife toward the waiting car quickly, protectively, almost urgently, his hand never leaving her back.

Cassienne glanced back once at Tina. Something about her looked fundamentally wrong. Not manipulative. Not dramatic or attentionseeking.

She looked terrified.

Steve opened the car door immediately. Dreston helped Cassienne inside first, making sure she was settled comfortably before turning back toward the scene. His face remained unreadable nowcold, exhausted, and completely done with this chapter of their lives.

I have nothing to say to you, Tina,he said calmly, his voice carrying finality.

Tina’s eyes widened with desperation. Please-

I think you’ve already done enough.”

The words hit Tina visibly, like a physical blow. But Dreston continued anyway, his tone flat. If you’re here about your parentsretirement benefits, your lawyers can contact my attorney.

Tina stared at him in disbelief. And for the first time, she truly realized he was serious. Completely serious. No lingering mercy. No hidden softness.

Noshe whispered shakily. Dreston, that’s not why I came.

But Dreston had already turned away and into his car.

Panic exploded inside Tina. Because now she understood something terrifyingnobody would protect

her anymore. The safety net she had once relied on had been completely severed. Please listen to me!she screamed desperately, her voice cracking loudly enough to draw startled attention from people around the entrance. I need your protection too!

Dreston stilled briefly inside the vehicle. Not because he believed her, but because something raw and genuine in her voice sounded truly frightened.

Tina stepped forward desperately despite the security team trying to hold her back. I just discovered a secret, she cried, tears streaming down her face. Someone is after me too!

Cassienne frowned inside the vehicle immediately. Something inside her chest tightened strangely, an uneasy twist of intuition. Because thisthis did not feel like the Tina she knew.

There was no arrogance left. No obsession. No calculated manipulation. Only fear. Real, bonedeep fear.

But before anyone could react further, everything happened too fast. A black vehicle suddenly sped around the corner at terrifying speed. Too fast. Far too fast for the hospital zone.

One of the bodyguards shouted immediately. Move!

But before Tina could turn instinctively toward the soundthe car slammed directly into her.

Cassienne froze completely inside the vehicle. The sickening sound of impact echoed horribly through the morning air.

Tina’s body hit the ground violently, rolling across the pavement several feet away. Blood spread almost immediately beneath her, dark and alarming against the concrete.

The black vehicle never stopped. It sped away instantly, tires screeching as it disappeared around the

bend.

For one full, horrifying second, nobody moved. Nobody breathed.

Then chaos exploded everywhere.
