It was very early in the morning. Dreston and Cassienne walked out of the doctor’s office together. They had come for her routine prenatal appointment, the latest in a series of careful check–ups to monitor both mother and baby. The news had been excellent–strong heartbeat, perfect growth, and Cassienne’s health remaining stable despite the lingering stress of recent events.

A few nurses passing through the hallway immediately slowed their steps after recognizing the couple. It was difficult not to stare.

Dreston Tremont walked beside his wife with one hand carrying her handbag and the other resting firmly at the small of her back, guiding her forward with quiet protectiveness, as though she might disappear if he let go for even a second. “I’m your husband,” he replied calmly, his voice low and steady. “I earned the right.”

Cassienne tried not to smile. She tried. But she failed completely. The small, affectionate curve of her lips made several nurses nearby exchange knowing glances and soft whispers. Because after all the public drama, the fake engagement scandals, the media chaos, and the endless speculation- these two people still looked painfully, undeniably in love with each other.

Cassienne sighed softly as they continued walking toward the private exit reserved for high–profile patients. “The people watching us won’t see it that way. They’ll twist it into another headline by tonight.”

Dreston finally glanced down at her, and the look in his eyes softened instantly, filled with quiet determination. “I don’t care what people think anymore.”

That simple answer touched her more deeply than she expected. Tina’s eyes widened with desperation. “Please-”

“I think you’ve already done enough.”

The words hit Tina visibly, like a physical blow. But Dreston continued anyway, his tone flat. “If you’re here about your parents‘ retirement benefits, your lawyers can contact my attorney.”

Tina stared at him in disbelief. And for the first time, she truly realized he was serious. Completely serious. No lingering mercy. No hidden softness.

“No…” she whispered shakily. “Dreston, that’s not why I came.”

But Dreston had already turned away and into his car.

One of the bodyguards shouted immediately. “Move!”

Tina’s body hit the ground violently, rolling across the pavement several feet away. Blood spread almost immediately beneath her, dark and alarming against the concrete.

bend.

For one full, horrifying second, nobody moved. Nobody breathed.
