When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 364

"Uncle, please."

Garry's voice echoed inside the room. For the first time since his captivity began, there was genuine fear in his eyes.

Donatus stood near the doorway, issuing instructions to his men while several guards moved quickly around the building.

The atmosphere had completely changed. The calm routine that had existed for days was gone. Now, everyone seemed tense and in a hurry.

Garry knew why. He knew that something had happened. He understood that someone had found something from the moment Donatus received a call earlier. "Please stop this madness," Garry said again.

Donatus finally looked at him. And for a brief moment, Garry saw exhaustion on the older man's face before it disappeared and was replaced by stubborn determination. "It's too late for that."

Garry shook his head. "No. It isn't. At least, nobody has died yet.”

The older man laughed bitterly. "You still don't understand."

"Then help me understand."

Donatus walked closer. His eyes looked older than before. They looked more tired and desperate. "What has been started must be finished."

The words sent a chill through Garry. Because they sounded less like confidence and more like obsession. "Finished?"

Garry stared at him. "You've already lost."

That got Donatus' attention. The older man narrowed his eyes. "I have not lost anything."

"Really?" Garry took a step forward. "What exactly are you fighting for now?"

"My brother."

"No.You are not fighting for my father.”

"My family."

"No."

"My legacy."

"What legacy?”

Each answer came quicker than the last.

Donatus' jaw tightened.

But Garry continued. "My father is gone." Garry shouted. “The company is gone." "The past is gone." "You're chasing ghosts."

For several seconds neither man spoke.

Then Donatus turned away as if refusing to hear any more.

One of his men entered the room. "Sir, we're ready."

Donatus nodded immediately. "Good." He looked toward Garry. "Take him."

Two men stepped forward. But Garry didn't resist, because what would be the point? Still, as they grabbed his arms, he looked directly at his uncle. "If anything happens to Cassienne..."

Donatus stopped walking.

"...you'll regret it."

The older man didn't answer. That silence frightened Garry more than any threat could have.

"Move."

Within minutes they were outside.

Several vehicles waited as engines were running. Doors opened, and men carrying weapons.

The entire operation looked rushed, and poorly planned. Everything looked too desperate which meant Donatus was scared.

The guards pushed Garry into the back seat of an SUV. Another man climbed in beside him. Then the door slammed shut.

A moment later the convoy began moving.

As the vineyard disappeared behind them, Garry looked out the window. This is a place where he ran his business. A place he once brought his friends. And a place his uncle used to imprison him.

For the first time in days, he was leaving the vineyard estate. And unfortunately, it wasn't freedom. It was simply a different cage.

…….

Several miles away, another vehicle remained parked on a quiet road. And inside sat two investigators.

Neither spoke as they watched the convoy emerge from the vineyard.

One of them lowered a pair of binoculars. "They're moving."

The other immediately reached for his phone. "Inform the team."

The call connected almost instantly. "They took the bait."

A smile appeared on the older investigator's face. The trap had worked perfectly.

For the last two days, carefully planted information had reached Donatus Richardson. Information suggesting investigators were closing in on the vineyard, also his location had been compromised.

The entire thing had been designed for one purpose. To make him move.

And he had.

Now they finally had something they never had before: A moving target. One that could be followed, and will eventually lead them straight to Garry.

The investigator looked at the retreating vehicles. "Don't lose them."

The driver started the engine. And the pursuit began.

…….

Cassienne sat quietly inside the living room at home. A cup of tea rested untouched on the table beside her.

Her thoughts remained far away.

Ever since they had returned from Lisbourn, something had changed.

The sound of approaching footsteps drew her attention.

She looked up. Then Joseph entered the room.

For a moment neither spoke. The older man looked tired.
