When Love Finds Its Way Back (Cassienne and Dreston) novel Chapter 77

Chapter SeventySeven: Tina Lied To You.

Good morning, Doctor Ray.

Cassienne greeted him the moment he stepped into the VIP ward. A nurse followed closely behind, pushing a small cart filled with medical supplies.

Good morning, my friend.Doctor Ray smiled warmly. I’m glad to hear your voice sounding stronger today. His eyes studied her briefly before he asked, So, how are you feeling this morning? Any complaints?

Cassienne tried to adjust her position on the bed, but a sharp pain made her stop. She winced, drawing in a breath.

Easy there,Doctor Ray said at once. He moved quickly to her side and held her hand to steady her. What are you trying to do?

I want to sit up,Cassienne replied after a slow breath.

Alright, the doctor said calmly. Just relax.

He released her hand and turned slightly. Nurse May?

Yes, Doctor, the nurse answered immediately, stepping closer.

Please adjust her bed to a sitting position.

Right away, Doctor.

Nurse May moved to the side panel of the bed and pressed a button. The bed responded smoothly, the backrest rising and settling into a comfortable sitting angle.

She paused and looked at Cassienne. Are you comfortable now, ma’am?

Cassienne offered a brief smile. Much better. Thank you.

At that moment, the bathroom door opened.

Dreston stepped out, fully dressed. His hair was still damp, a faint trace of steam clinging to him from the shower.

Good morning,he said casually.

Doctor Ray lifted a brow, clearly surprised. The sight before him was unexpectedthe CEO of Auralink Systems stepping out of a hospital bathroom as though it were his own room.

He chuckled and shook his head. Morning. I didn’t realize you were still here. That’squite surprising.

Dreston didn’t respond. He simply walked over to Cassienne’s bedside. The moment his eyes met hers, his expression softened.

Cassienne, on the other hand, couldn’t look away.

Fresh from the shower, with his hair still slightly damp, he looked unfairly handsome. She felt it immediately-

her heart, which had felt heavy and still moments ago, began to beat again.

Good morning, Cassienne,Dreston said gently, taking her hand. How are you feeling?

Better, she replied with a small smile. Thank you.

Her eyes remained on him, lingering longer than they should have.

Doctor Ray noticed the silent exchange and cleared his throat lightly. Alright, that’s enough. Let us do our job now,he said with a playful chuckle.

Dreston released her hand at once. I’ll be right here, okay?

Cassienne nodded once, smiling faintly.

Dreston stepped away and moved toward the sitting area of the room. He sat down comfortably, crossed one leg over the other, and pulled out his phone to check his messages.

Meanwhile, Doctor Ray and Nurse May attended to Cassienne, checking her vitals and ensuring everything was in order. Once satisfied, the doctor gave a final nod and left the room, leaving the nurse behind to finish up.

Dreston hadn’t been paying attention.

One moment, his eyes were fixed on the screen of his phone. The next, something shifted in his awareness, and he looked up without thinking.

His gaze moved toward the bed. And his eyes widened immediately, at the sight before him, causing him to freeze. Cassienne was no longer wearing the hospital gown. She was naked now. The nurse stood close to her, carefully cleaning her with a soft towel, her movements gentle and professional.

Dreston’s throat moved as the nurse’s hands moved around her breasts while cleaning her body. Cassienne sat still, her posture tense but trusting, clearly enduring the process rather than welcoming it.

Dreston’s breath caught in his throat.

Instinct surged through him. For a split second, he nearly rose from his seat with the urge to step in and push the nurse away from Cassienne.

How dare she touch Cassienne that way?. It took everything in him to remain where he was, to remind himself that the nurse was simply doing her job.

Still, he hated it.

In the five years of their marriage, he had never seen Cassienne that way. Not this exposed. The realization struck him hard, leaving him unsettled and ashamed.

Her skin looked pale and fragile under the hospital lights. The curve of her shoulders, the swell of her breasts and the quiet strength in the way she held herself even in painit all felt painfully intimate.

This should not feel like torture, he thought.

Yet it did.

He couldn’t look away, even though every second made him more uncomfortable. More conflicted. A bitter truth settled in his chesthe should have been the one caring for her. Touching her the way the nurse did. Standing by her side when it mattered.

And yethe hadn’t.

His body reacted the way it never did with her, before his mind could stop it, and that only made the confusion worse. How was it possible that he was reacting to her now and not before?

She had been there all along. In the same house. He had the opportunity to touch her. He had the opportunity to be in the same bed with her. And yet, he never did. What changed? Why was he suddenly feeling this way about her?

He clenched his jaw, forcing his thoughts away from places they had no right to go.

This wasn’t the time. He told himself.

When he finally lifted his gaze again, the nurse was finishing up. Cassienne was gently helped into a fresh gown, her movements careful as the IV line was adjusted. The nurse checked everything once more, then pushed her cart toward the door.

Rest well, she said softly before leaving. And the door closed behind her.

Dreston stood immediately and crossed the room in a few long strides. He sat beside Cassienne and reached for her hand, holding it with care.

Do you feel better?he asked.
