Cassienne stood in front of her mirror, checking her look one last time. She had worked hard to get ready tonight. A soft smile touched her lips, even though her stomach felt full of butterflies.
Corren waited downstairs in his car. She had said yes to this dinner date with him.
After so much pain in her life, she decided to be brave. If she really wanted a fresh start, and if she really wanted to stay away from Dreston, she had to try new things.
For years, she had loved only one man—a man who loved someone else. It was time to let go. Maybe Corren was the one who could help her heal. She told herself that quietly.
Tonight, she wore a short brown leather skirt, a soft cream tank top, and a matching cream leather jacket. Her long black hair was pulled up in a high ponytail. It made her look young and fresh. Her red matte lipstick added a perfect touch of beauty.
She grabbed her cream purse and phone, took a deep breath, and left her apartment. She felt beautiful.
When she stepped outside, Corren saw her right away. He got out of his sleek black car and walked toward her with a warm smile.
Her heart skipped when she saw him. He looked so different tonight, so handsome. He wore black slacks and a smooth black silk shirt tucked in neatly. His hair was combed back, showing off his clean–shaven face. His green eyes sparkled under the streetlights.
She stopped in front of him and smiled big.
“You look stunning,” he said softly, his voice full of admiration.
“You look very handsome too,” she replied, feeling shy but happy.
“Please,” he said, opening the car door for her with a gentle gesture.
She slid inside without waiting. He got in beside her in the back seat. The car pulled away smoothly.
At first, it was very quiet. Cassienne felt nervous. This was her first real date ever. Her friend Daisy had given her some advice, but some of it made her blush and worry.
Still, she wanted to try. There was real chemistry between her and Corren. If it felt right, she would let it happen.
Corren kept stealing glances at her pretty face. In his mind, he pictured a future with her, if she would let him in. He knew she had loved someone else for a long time. That man still held on to her heart, even though he loved another woman.
Corren would not rush her. He just wanted to show her what real love felt like, gentle, patient, and true.
“Where are we going?” she asked, breaking the quiet.
His green eyes met her blue ones. And he smiled. “To my house. I hired a great chef just for tonight.”
Her cheeks turned pink. Daisy’s words came back to her: “Your date might end with sex. Just enjoy it. It’s only sex, nothing more.”
She pushed the thought away fast before he would notice. But Corren already saw her face change.
“Are you okay?” he asked, his voice full of concern. He leaned a little closer.

“Yes, I’m fine,” she said, nodding quickly.
“If you don’t like the idea of my house, we can go somewhere else,” he added right away. He didn’t want her to feel uncomfortable.
“No, it’s okay. Your house is fine,” she told him.
He looked at her for a moment, then nodded. He would never push her into anything she didn’t want.
Soon they arrived at his building in the fancy Southvale area. He led her through the private parking to his own
elevator.
When the doors opened on the top floor, Cassienne stepped into a stunning penthouse. The smell of delicious food filled the air. She smiled without thinking.
The living room was huge and beautiful–all glass walls with city lights twinkling outside. Soft white sofas sat on one side, bright yellow ones on the other. The open kitchen and dining area looked so elegant.
“Welcome to my home,” Corren said. “I hope you like it?”
“Like it?” Her eyes grew wide. “I love it. It’s so beautiful,” she said honestly.
He smiled and stepped closer. Gently, he helped her slip off her jacket. His fingers brushed her shoulders lightly, sending a warm shiver through her.
“Thank you,” she whispered.
He placed the jacket carefully on the sofa and led her to the dining table. He pulled out her chair like a true gentleman. She sat, and he took the seat across from her.
He opened a bottle of wine and poured some into her glass, then his own.
“I think we should talk while we eat,” he said softly.
She took a small sip of wine and set the glass down. “Okay,” she answered.
They started eating. The food was amazing. They shared stories about themselves. Cassienne told him funny things from when she was a teenager. She even talked about her mom, and Corren listened with such care. It made her heart feel warm.
She learned his parents had passed away. She felt sorry for him and touched his hand for a second across the table.
Their talk became deeper. Then Corren looked right into her eyes.
“Do you think you and I could have a future together?” he asked quietly.
