Madam Suzanne was thrilled. Her son actually seemed to like a girl. Maybe now he'd finally settle down.
The Reed family, however, was not so happy. From the start, Zachariah hadn’t even looked at Celeste once. Though they had initially hoped he’d fall for Serena to protect Celeste’s chances with the Almara family, being ignored so completely was still humiliating.
The thing they threw away was now someone else’s treasure. It was a slap in the face.
Celeste couldn't even swallow her water. “I need to use the restroom.”
She must have made herself look too ugly. That’s why Zachariah was disgusted.
“Celeste, didn’t you just come back from the restroom?” Angela asked.
Celeste's face went dark. Couldn’t she drink water like a normal person?
Angela, frustrated and embarrassed, couldn’t lash out at the Simpsons, so she turned on her son. “Zachary, mind your manners!”
Zachary snorted. He couldn’t even focus on his game anymore.
Serena was being stalked by some pervy creep. Just because Zachary didn’t want her didn’t mean others could.
He moved over to Serena’s side. “Didn’t you say you liked games? Let’s play together.”
Madam Suzanne raised a brow. “She plays games too?”
One son ruining his education with gaming was bad enough. If he married a gamer too, the whole house would collapse.
Angela finally had a chance to unload. “Yes, she plays all the time. Even during class!”
Richard kicked her under the table. What was she thinking? Weren’t they here to push Serena toward the Simpson family?
Angela realized she’d said too much.
Richard quickly tried to fix it. “Even so, she still ranked first in the city!”
To play that much and still come out on top—that took serious brains. Madam Suzanne’s eyes lit up again.
Zachary scoffed. “She cheated. Didn’t you both go to the principal yourselves and say she cheated?”
Richard froze. Was it too late to strangle this idiot?
The light vanished from Madam Suzanne’s eyes. She picked up her tea and skimmed the foam off the top. Typical country bumpkin. No discipline. No integrity. She was not fit to be the Simpson family’s daughter-in-law.
Zachariah caught the change in his mother’s expression. “Mom, I don’t care. I like Serena.”
