That’s the secret weapon behind many successful cosmetics.
Even when women know the risks, the pursuit of beauty still drives them straight into its arms.
That’s exactly how Wendy felt about the candy Serena had given her.
She knew it might not be entirely safe, but the miraculous effects were just too tempting to resist.
“Mm, I’m not taking it anymore,” she said.
But even as the words left her mouth, she carefully tucked the bottle away.
“By the way, Mom, is Uncle’s family coming back to Morrow Manor tomorrow?”
“They should be. As long as your uncle is down from the mountain, he always brings your aunt and the others back every week.”
Only then did Wendy remember—her son had never met her older brother’s adoptive daughter. Out of courtesy, she probably should’ve mentioned it to him, just to keep things proper. But something about that girl rubbed her the wrong way, and she couldn’t bring herself to say her name.
So even after chatting with her son for a bit, she never once brought up Serena.
The next day, as usual, Arbor brought his wife and daughter back to Morrow Manor.
Wendy came out to greet them. Serena saw her from a distance, bare-faced and without makeup, and could tell the candy was working well.
“Aunt Wendy, another week of taking it and the spots should be completely gone.”
Wendy’s face twitched. Her smile almost fell apart.
For some reason, she suddenly switched to her refined, icy noblewoman expression and blurted out, “I haven’t taken your candy.”
As if not admitting it would somehow preserve her dignity as a high-society lady in Evervale City.
Serena’s face stayed calm as ever. She simply nodded.
Wendy’s heart skipped—she had the eerie feeling that the girl had seen right through her act. That only made her feel more exposed.
Just as she was about to link arms with Olivia and walk away, the girl spoke again.
“It also helps regulate menstruation. You might get some mid-cycle bleeding during the first month.”
Wendy, currently experiencing mid-cycle bleeding: …
She suddenly felt like this girl had read not just her mind, but her body too.
Mica also came out and happened to overhear.
“My periods are irregular too. Do you have anything for that?”
She’d been watching Wendy’s complexion improve day by day. The spots on her face were almost gone, and her skin looked soft and radiant.
Then she looked at her own face—dry, sagging, losing collagen—and grew even more frustrated. When she’d asked Wendy what she was taking, Wendy had been tight-lipped.
The Morrow family’s business was booming, but her own youth and beauty were fading fast. Nathan hadn’t touched her in ages.

But Mica had misunderstood, assuming she was being selfish. That only made Wendy less inclined to share it.
A strange warmth flickered in Wendy’s heart. Even if the candy was poison, Serena clearly didn’t hand it out lightly. That meant she must hold Wendy in higher regard than she let on.
