For VIP client safety and privacy, of course the club would never allow something like that.
“Don’t worry—Azure Club isn’t some place any random person off the street can walk into.”
Reassured, Kelly returned to the event room.
There were already five or six people inside, all of them Craig’s gambling buddies.
One of them, Quinton, had actually organized today’s stone gambling event.
The Morrow family, the Summers family, and the Almara family were the three most prominent families in Evervale City.
Naturally, comparisons between the heirs of these families were unavoidable.
Taylor was in a league of his own—an undeniable genius in scientific research, and a few years younger to boot—so he wasn’t really part of the competition. But Craig and Quinton moved in the same circles and both had a passion for gambling on jade. Calling them friends was generous; rivals was probably more accurate.
As soon as Kelly walked in, Quinton spoke up.
“Craig, this isn’t fair. You even brought in reinforcements! Everyone knows your cousin Kelly has a killer eye. And she’s a genius top student too.”
That was clearly a compliment to Kelly’s stone-gambling abilities. She smiled politely. “Mr. Quinton flatters me. I only know a little—definitely not enough to compare with you all.”
Quinton puffed on his cigarette and blew out a slow ring of smoke.
“Kelly’s academic record speaks for itself. I’ve said it before—if you ever want to transfer to our Experimental Academy, we’ll build you your own lab.”
Experimental Academy was a private elite school, and Quinton was a junior board member. Their school had always seen Haven High as their biggest rival. Over the years, they’d managed to poach some promising students, but with Taylor holding down the fort at Haven High, anyone with ambition naturally gravitated there.
Kelly wasn’t just consistently ranked first in the city—she had also made it to the Hayes Corp finals. If they could get her to switch to Experimental, she’d become a living advertisement.
This wasn’t his first time trying to recruit her, and to be honest, the only reason he tolerated Craig—his long-time rival—was because of Kelly.
Craig cut in just in time. “We’re just gambling today. She’s not joining this round—I just brought her along for fun. She picks her stone, I pick mine. We’re not working together.”
He glanced around at the group. “And quit smoking in the event room. She can’t stand the smell.”
The others were respectful. They all snuffed out their cigarettes.
Even Quinton, who was known for his heavy habit, took one last drag, then crushed the butt out, giving Kelly face.
Kelly’s mood lifted. She smiled politely. “It’s really fine. Go ahead and smoke—I don’t mind.”
Of course, now that she said that, none of the guys wanted to be seen lighting up again.
Quinton just gave a quiet smile.
Sure, the girl was smart and capable. But she was also a bit… pretentious.
