When the GF9 Test Subject Became His Obsession novel Chapter 61

Solstice was still in a daze.

Jeremy, on the other hand, stared bitterly at Thanos and the others being treated like heroes, his mentality completely collapsing.

Just two points—he’d only been two points short—and he had lost the athletic scholarship consideration spot for nothing.

If he’d secured it, his grades could have given him a real shot at Howerton University. But now? Twenty points, gift-wrapped and handed to the trash from Building B.

Those losers would be lucky to get into an average college. What difference would it make where they studied?

But him—he was aiming for Howerton University! Howerton University!

This humiliation, he could not swallow.

Jeremy stormed into the student council office.

“Joshua, I want to report Patrick for throwing the game!”

Joshua had only just learned that the athletic scholarship consideration had been snatched by two nobodies from Building B—one of them being Thanos.

The bonus points had already been earmarked by the higher-ups for Jeremy and Harry Yale from Building A. Both were in the top ten of their grade, and with the bonus points, their chances of getting into Howerton University would have skyrocketed.

Now, the points had gone to two academic bottom-feeders from Building B. It was a disgrace.

Joshua had been at a loss for how to explain this to the school when Jeremy’s complaint landed on his desk.

If they ruled that one side had thrown the game, Thanos’s match would be invalidated and their scholarship consideration canceled. It was the perfect solution.

The state basketball players were more seriously injured than expected. Patrick had just delivered them to the hospital when he was urgently summoned by Joshua.

“They’re injured this badly, and you’re saying they threw the game?” Patrick’s anger boiled over.

Joshua’s expression was pious. “They’re hurt this badly—so tell me, would they rather admit they played dirty, got outplayed by high schoolers, and still lost… or would they rather admit they threw the game to let the other side win?”

Patrick frowned. “But admitting they threw the game would damage their reputation and hurt their careers. They’d never agree to it.”

“They don’t need to admit it,” Joshua said smoothly. “You do.”

Patrick froze.

“All you need to say is that you led the team in throwing the game. They’ll just say you invited them for a friendly match, and that they couldn’t use their status as state players to bully high schoolers. Unfortunately, they didn’t expect Haven High’s kids to be so ruthless, and they ended up getting injured.”

Patrick’s face turned pale.

Joshua patted his shoulder, voice full of meaning. “It’s just… to fulfill the quota the school gave us, and for the school’s reputation, I’m afraid you’ll have to take the hit this time.”

But Lebron shook his head. “I like watching.”

His gaze drifted briefly to his own legs before he quickly looked away, trying to hide the flicker of self-consciousness.

“I like playing games. The console you bought is really fun.”

Thanos thumped his chest. “I heard LoneSpark released a basketball game. I’ll get it for you next time!”

Lebron didn’t answer, just replayed the video and skipped straight to Serena’s appearance on court.

Thanos was speechless.

If Thanos could see what was going on, Serena certainly could.

She glanced at Lebron’s legs. They could be treated—but it would take time.

At the Reed house, Richard’s business troubles had him chain-smoking. The living room was thick with smoke, the high ceiling carrying it upstairs.

Angela frowned. “Can’t you smoke less? None of us want lung cancer from your secondhand smoke!”

“All you ever care about is yourselves. How about caring about me for once? I put food on your table and a roof over your head, all the pressure is on me, and you still want to take away my cigarettes?”
