When the GF9 Test Subject Became His Obsession novel Chapter 8

Serena went straight to the school office.

Inside, two homeroom teachers were in the middle of a heated argument with the head teacher.

Sequoia, one of the homeroom teachers, was clearly fuming. “Mr. Pan, you want her transferred into Class 1? Our class is packed with top students, all aiming for elite universities. And you want to add someone who ranked last on the entrance exam and cheated on the monthly test? That would drag down our class average. Absolutely not."

Having Serena in Class 1 could tank the overall results and threaten Sequoia's hard-earned reputation as an outstanding teacher.

The homeroom teacher of Class 3, Vesper, couldn't hide his smugness. “Ms. Sequoia, you're a province-wide recognized star teacher. If anyone can straighten out a student like her, it's you. No need to be so humble."

Sequoia snapped back, livid. "Vesper, then why don't you keep her in your class?"

Vesper spread his hands. "The Morrow family doesn't think our class is suitable. I'd keep her if I could."

The two teachers shoved responsibility back and forth, each sounding more self-righteous than the other.

Caught in the middle, Quartz Pan, the dean of students, ran a hand through his thinning hair. "Serena, which class do you want to be in?"

It was as if Sequoia and Vesper had only just realized that the girl they were arguing about was standing right there.

"I didn't cheat," Serena said calmly.

Sequoia let out a sharp laugh, more insulted than amused. "You expect us to believe you beat our top student, Kelly, without cheating?" She couldn't swallow the fact that a so-called cheater had outscored her prized pupil. "You even copied every single answer, right? At least make a few mistakes so it looks believable."

She continued coldly, "This was the hardest math test we've ever given. Even I couldn't score full marks. What makes you think you could? If you're really that good, why are you even in high school?"

For once, Vesper sided with Sequoia. "Serena, with the Morrow family backing you, cheating isn't that big of a deal. Why insist on denying it and stirring up trouble? Admit it, and people might still see you as honest and likable. Why fight it and make everyone dislike you?"

"I—did not—cheat."

The air around Serena seemed to drop several degrees.

Sequoia shuddered, and even Vesper rubbed his arms unconsciously.

"Fine, have it your way," Sequoia snapped. “Mr. Pan, she's not my problem. I'm leaving."

Vesper, never one for trouble, slipped out just as quickly.

Quartz wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Serena, I…"

"I didn't cheat!"

"I didn't say you did," Quartz stammered, feeling the chill himself.

"If you don't believe me," Serena said evenly, "then let's compete. Compare my answers with hers." She pointed at Sequoia.

"Serena, are you out of your mind?" Sequoia exploded.

“Ms. Sequoia," Serena asked coolly, "are you scared?"

Sequoia's eyes burned. “Fine. If you lose, you get expelled."

"And if Ms. Sequoia loses?"

Sequoia scoffed. "If I lose, I'll eat my hat."

“Deal.”

Quartz personally drew two sets of questions from the question bank, and at Sequoia's insistence, they were the hardest ones available.

“Ms. Sequoia, isn't this a bit unfair?" Sequoia sneered at Quartz. "She thinks she can get a perfect score. Are you protecting her?"

"Did you help me cheat?" she asked casually.

"Of course not!" Quartz answered angrily.

"Then why are you so nervous?"

Quartz paused for a second, then turned back to Sequoia. "Keep your promise."

Sequoia stood frozen.

In more than ten years of teaching, she had never felt humiliation like this. With her eyes burning, she stormed out of the office.

Quartz's face was red.

"Serena… I'm curious too. How did you do it?"

Serena glanced at him coolly. "By calculating."

That was that.

Quartz sighed. "But now, neither Class 3 nor Class 1 wants you. Where do you want to go?"

"The Morrow family said you'd handle it."

We've donated $500,000 to this school. Is this really how you handle things?

Quartz rubbed his temples.

Fine—you're the boss. But seriously, kid, with an attitude like that at your age? That's going to cause trouble.
