Chapter 274 Dream
“Thank you. Thank you so much…” The vampire broke into joyful tears, leaning down to hug his mate. “I love you, Millie. I love you-”
Millie, her strength returning slowly, reached up with a weak hand, touching his face in response.
Petal stood frozen, watching them as they embraced, something stirring deep inside her.
Silas quickly opened the door, interrupting the couple. “Then, shall we go?” he asked, turning to Petal.
She nodded, stepping out of the room and heading towards another door.
“You two can take off the blindfolds and rest here for a while before you leave the temple,” Silas said, then turned to exit the room where Theo was still waiting.
“Why are you pissed?” Theo asked, noticing the tension in Silas‘ posture.
Silas glanced at the window, his gaze lingering on the couple. His frown deepened. “What the hell were they thinking, displaying such affection in front of her, when I clearly asked them not to? That’s why I don’t allow couples in the temple.”
Theo glanced up at him, a subtle glint of understanding in his eyes. “But Petal’s a woman, Silas. She’s grown. Some things can’t be stopped, even though you never let her see or know what a man and a woman do when they’re in love, or when they’re intimate. I bet she hasn’t even seen a man and a woman hugging before this vampire couple.”
Silas groaned, rubbing his temple. “The more naïve she stays, the better.”
“But why?” Theo’s voice softened, the confusion evident in his tone. “I don’t understand why you don’t let her know the truth. Why don’t you let her mingle with the other men outside this temple? Why not let her live like any other woman? Aren’t you just stripping her of a normal life?”
Silas‘ heart clenched painfully, and he turned to face the grand roof of the temple. Once just a patch of grass, the temple had risen the moment she was born from the white flower. He sighed, his voice barely above a whisper. “Because she’s not supposed to fall in love, Theo. Born from the Goddess‘ tear, heartbreak is the Blood Petal’s destiny. I’m just protecting her from that pain. I believe…since she doesn’t know a thing about the bond between a man and a woman, she’ll never understand what love truly is.”
Theo finally understood the reasoning behind Silas‘ actions and hesitated before asking, “Is that why you panic whenever she goes to the waterfall to meet that man?”
Silas’s muscles tensed at the mention of the man, and his eyes sharpened as he asked in return, “Tell me, Theo, have you ever seen this man?”
Theo was taken aback by the question. For the first time Silas hadn’t lied about the man in the cave. “No,” Theo replied, shaking his head. “I’ve never even seen the waterfall, to be honest.”
Silas‘ lips curved into a bitter smile. “Because there’s no waterfall outside the territory.”
Theo froze, shock spreading across his face. “What?” He could hardly believe his ears. “But Petal goes there and says it’s a waterfall…”
Silas shook his head, his voice low. “There’s nothing but a garden of flowers, and then a cliff.”
Theo’s jaw dropped in disbelief. “B–but…she says there’s a man in the cave that she talks to and…”
Silas shook his head again. “There is no waterfall or cave, Theo. She just ends up sleeping among the flowers.”
A chill ran down Theo’s spine. “Wait… if there’s only a garden and a cliff, and she just ends up sleeping there but claims to see that man…does that mean…” He shivered, the realization dawning on him, “She meets that man in her dreams?”
Chapter 274 Dream
Silas nodded gravely. “At first, I thought she was imagining him, but slowly I realized that she truly meets him in her dreams without realizing it. And that’s dangerous, Theo. The way she talks about him, he doesn’t seem like a mere figment of her imagination. He could be dangerous for her. Especially because he’s a man. That’s why I told her not to go there.”
Unbeknownst to anyone, the next day, while chasing her rabbit Rob through the garden, Petal made a desperate attempt to save it from slipping into the water. But suddenly, before her eyes, the waterfall transformed into a cliff. In her haste to save the rabbit, she lost her footing, and before she could regain control, she slipped, falling into the fast–flowing river below. The current swept her away, carrying her far from the safety of the temple and into lands she was never supposed to step in.
