Joaquin took a deep breath. “Fine, let’s not talk about that for now. But Mr. Nash, you know she went on a blind date with me. It didn’t go well; she clearly has something against me, but I was sincerely trying to pursue her. I waited years for her while she was refusing to consider an arranged marriage.”
“Such a noble narrative,” Yosef said dismissively. “The truth is, she rejected you, so you resorted to stalking her and cornering her at her own home. Henrietta and I are married. She is my wife. If you continue to harass her, don’t blame me for being less than courteous.”
Joaquin sucked in a sharp breath. “When… when did you get married?” He’d been showing up at Henrietta’s office every day for the past two days.
“Today.” Yosef took Henrietta’s hand and lifted it, displaying their matching wedding bands. “See for yourself. Now, get lost.”
“Mr. Nash, this is…”
Calvert stepped in. “You heard him. Scram. Now.”
Yosef turned back to Henrietta. “Let me walk you in.”
“Will that make you late?” she asked.
“It doesn’t matter,” he said coolly.
“Okay, then.”
As they started to leave, Joaquin shouted, “Wait! Mr. Nash, there’s something I have to tell you!”
Yosef didn’t even turn around. “I’m not interested.” He kept walking, Henrietta’s hand securely in his.
But Joaquin wasn’t finished. “Mr. Nash, Ms. Sargent is damaged goods! She was with that ex of hers for four or five years; they did everything. I went to see that man today specifically to ask about it. She even had an abortion for that social climber!”
