Yosef looked up from his tablet, his eyes cold. “Fifteen lashes. Administer them yourself.”
Calvert’s eyes widened in shock, a chill running down his spine. But he recovered instantly. “Yes, sir. I spoke out of turn. I will accept the punishment.”
...
Meanwhile, Henrietta walked into the main hall of the Sargent mansion to find her mother, Sabrina, arranging flowers. Sabrina looked up as she entered. “How did it go?”
Henrietta smiled and held out her hand. “We’re married.”
Sabrina stared, uncomprehending. “Married? I thought you were just going to…” Her voice trailed off as her brain caught up. She rushed over and took Henrietta’s hand, her eyes lighting up at the ring. “It’s beautiful! Yosef has always had impeccable taste! But… how did this happen so fast? This is such big news…”
She was so flustered she didn’t know where to start.
“Mom, calm down,” Henrietta said, squeezing her hand. “We just felt that we were a good match. He came prepared, so when I agreed, we went ahead and got married right away.”
Sabrina finally processed it all, a wide smile spreading across her face. “Look how eager he was. But it’s true, he’s at an age where he needs a wife. Where is he now? Did he leave?”
“He’s very busy,” Henrietta explained. “He’ll come for a formal visit next time he’s back.”
“I know, I know,” Sabrina said, waving a hand. “I understand. I’m not in a rush.”
Henrietta laughed at her mother's obvious excitement. It made her happy to see Sabrina so pleased.
“What about the wedding?” Sabrina asked next. “Have you two discussed it?”
“We only just registered the marriage,” Henrietta replied. “We haven’t had time to talk about anything else. We’ll figure it out when he’s back.”
“Alright,” Sabrina beamed. “You two truly are meant to be! I have to call Zelina, she’ll be even more thrilled than I am!”
Henrietta smiled. “Go ahead.”
