Henrietta blinked. "Me? What about me?"
Yosef glanced at his watch. "It's half past midnight, my dear wife."
His words caught her off guard. Staring at his cool, handsome face, Henrietta couldn't help but think he was being a little... flirtatious.
"You should be resting," Yosef said.
"Oh, right," she replied, snapping back to reality. "I will. Goodnight."
Yosef nodded. Just as Henrietta was about to end the call, Yosef's eyes remained fixed on the screen. "Henrietta, what about a goodnight kiss?"
Henrietta was speechless. His sense of etiquette was... impeccable, down to the last detail. She felt incredibly shy but knew she couldn't refuse. After a moment of hesitation, her face flushed slightly as she mouthed a silent "mwah" at the screen.
"Is that okay?" she asked quickly.
Yosef’s lips curved into a slight smile. "Perfect. Get some rest."
"Okay. You should eat soon," Henrietta said, nodding. She quickly hung up, placed her phone aside, and burrowed under the covers.
She’d never heard anyone describe Yosef as so... charming. Even with her cynical view on love, she found him hard to resist. Was it all a calculated move, or was he just naturally this thoughtful?
Henrietta didn't dare to dwell on it. Then she remembered there was something else she'd forgotten to tell him. But it was too late now. She'd tell him next time.
...
Over at Yosef's, Calvert stepped forward. "Mr. Nash, the food is cold. I'll have the kitchen prepare a fresh meal."
Yosef nodded.
As Calvert instructed the kitchen staff, he returned to pour Yosef a glass of wine, unable to resist a bit of gossip. "I never would have guessed Quinton really had feelings for Henrietta. Looks like he couldn't keep it bottled up any longer."
Yosef took a sip of wine. "It's to be expected."
Calvert lowered his head with a smile. "Henrietta said she likes you earlier."
Yosef set his glass down. "I like her too."
He said it so naturally that it seemed to hold no deeper meaning.
Calvert frowned slightly but changed the subject. "Henrietta's temperament is much better than Britney's. Her composure is quite impressive. Mr. Nash, you have excellent taste. That position as your wife could only be filled by Henrietta. She’s the only one who can handle it with grace and without causing a scene."
If Britney had been in Henrietta's situation, she would have thrown a fit over the bruise on her wrist alone. And faced with a drunken confession, Britney would have lorded Yosef's affection over the suitor while simultaneously using the incident to boast to Yosef about her own desirability.
Yosef ignored Calvert's commentary. As the kitchen staff brought in a fresh meal, he finally spoke. "Regarding the joint project with the Sargent family, I want you to put some pressure on Quinton. Keep him busy so he has less time to dwell on other things."
