Henrietta had been about to get up and leave, but now she felt stuck. If she left, Quinton might misinterpret it as a sign of her own emotional turmoil.
"Mom, it's not like that. It's really just for work," Quinton insisted.
"Alright, that's enough," Hector said. "The boy has his own plans. If he had someone special, he'd bring her home for you to meet. Now, you two should get to work."
With that, Henrietta finally stood. "Mom, Dad, I'm heading out."
Quinton also rose from his chair. "Mom, Dad, I'm off to the office."
Henrietta quickened her pace slightly. Quinton had always called her parents 'Mom' and 'Dad,' but now, hearing it felt... different. The whole dynamic had become delicate and strange. Moving to Elysium Manor was definitely the right decision.
Quinton's long strides easily caught up to her, and they walked in silence. As they neared the parking garage, he finally spoke, his voice steady. "Henrietta, I'm sorry about last night. I was drunk."
Henrietta nodded. "I know. You should drink less in the future."
"I will," Quinton promised.
They had reached their cars.
As Henrietta got in, Quinton added, "Drive safe."
"You too." She started the car and pulled away.
The moment she was gone, Quinton clenched his fists and shut his eyes tightly. He couldn't interfere with her life. Her happiness was all that mattered.
They had a date yesterday... and got married on the same day? Was it a whirlwind marriage?
It had to be. She must think Yosef is an exceptional man to marry him so quickly. After all, she'd turned down Joaquin. So just how exceptional was Yosef Nash?
...
The first thing Henrietta did after leaving was call Winona and ask her to send Matteo to her office.
Matteo was on set, but he had no choice but to return to the company. Artina pulled him aside, whispering, "She's already calling you in? Did Mr. Leland go to her right away? I never thought he'd be so impulsive!"
"Probably," Matteo frowned. "She must know. Why else would she summon me this early?"
Artina grew anxious. "What if she gets furious about us spreading those rumors? You don't think she'd cancel the show, do you?"
Matteo lowered his eyes, feigning grievance. "I only said those things because I want to get back together with you. And it really was for your own good. That Mr. Leland is a tyrant, a complete lunatic with a terrible temper! He almost smashed an ashtray over my head!"
Henrietta stared at him coldly. "Oh? What a pity he missed."
Matteo was taken aback. "Henrietta, you can be angry with me, you can even hit me! But you can't let him get away with it! Don't get involved with a man like that just to spite me. These rich heirs are cruel and ruthless."
Henrietta remained silent.
Thinking he was getting through to her, Matteo pressed on. "Even if you ended up with a guy like that, you'd never be happy. He's way too domineering!"
Henrietta looked up at him, her expression icy and detached. "And what business is that of yours?"
Matteo froze, his anger flaring. Then his eyes fell on Henrietta's hand. On her ring finger sat a massive diamond ring that looked incredibly expensive, putting the engagement ring he had planned to give her to shame.
"Henrietta, what's with that ring?" he demanded. "Did Mr. Leland give it to you? Why are you wearing it on your ring finger? What's going on between you two? Did you say yes to him?"
As he spoke, a sense of panic washed over him. If Henrietta was truly done with him, what would he do?
