Henrietta raised an eyebrow slightly. So soon? The efficiency of a man like him was truly no exaggeration.
“Alright,” Henrietta nodded. “I understand.”
Without any further pleasantries, Yosef simply said, “Drive safely.”
Henrietta pressed her lips together. “Okay. I’ll hang up now.”
“Alright.”
The drive from her office to the Sargent family home took an hour. When she walked into the main hall, she stopped in her tracks, stunned. She never expected to find Yosef’s parents, Zelina and Ryland, in her house. Hector and Sabrina were sitting on the sofa with them, and Quinton was there too, sitting quietly to the side. The two sets of parents were chatting happily.
When Sabrina saw Henrietta, she quickly waved her over. “Henrietta, come here! Zelina and Ryland came to visit.”
“Oh, coming,” Henrietta said, suppressing her surprise as she walked forward.
Zelina’s face lit up with a wide smile. “Henrietta, come quickly! It’s been too long, I’ve missed you.”
As Henrietta reached the sofa, Zelina turned to Sabrina and said, “Wait, she should be calling me Mom now.”
Sabrina laughed, equally delighted. “Of course, she should.”
Henrietta felt an unexpected blush creep up her cheeks. Was it already time for that?
Zelina pulled Henrietta down to sit beside her, looking at her with undisguised approval.
Ryland, sensing Henrietta’s potential discomfort, interjected smoothly, “Yosef is still abroad. It might make Henrietta shy to change how she addresses us all by herself. It’s not too late to wait until he returns.”
Henrietta was surprised by Ryland’s thoughtfulness. He was such a high-status figure, yet he was so humble and kind. Had Yosef inherited his considerate nature from his father?
Hearing her husband, Zelina smiled. “You’re right, dear, you’re right. Look at me, getting ahead of myself. Henrietta, please don’t mind me. I’m just… so very happy.”
The kindness of the two elders made Henrietta feel a bit embarrassed for her hesitation. She offered a faint smile and said, “I don’t mind at all. Since I’m already married to Mr. Nash, it’s only right that I change how I address you. It doesn’t matter that he’s not here.”
She thought of soldiers who had to leave on missions right after their weddings. Their wives didn’t wait for them to return before acknowledging their new family. A marriage was a marriage; there was no need to be overly sentimental about the formalities.
Besides, since they were being so considerate of her feelings, the least she could do was make them happy. After all, the fact remained that she was now Yosef’s wife.
Her words brought expressions of unconcealed delight to Zelina and Ryland’s faces.
“Really, Henrietta? Is that truly how you feel?” Zelina asked, her eyes sparkling.
Henrietta nodded. “I will, Mom.”
Meanwhile, Quinton’s expression had soured considerably. He wasn’t trying to be sullen; it was an instinctive reaction he couldn’t control.
“Henrietta,” Zelina said, “we came here today because Yosef arranged it.”
Ryland added, “That’s right. Yosef asked us to deliver the wedding gifts.”
This surprised Henrietta even more. He wasn't even in the country, yet he had arranged every detail so perfectly.
“Oh,” Henrietta said, collecting herself. “Thank you for coming all this way, Mom, Dad.”
Zelina smiled. “It was no trouble at all. It’s what we should do.”
With that, it was time to address the official matter of the wedding gifts. The Nash family’s butler had them brought in and announced each item, leaving Henrietta stunned.
There was a villa and five commercial properties in the business district. A commercial skyscraper on a prime street in Juno City. A luxury yacht and a private jet. There were also countless antiques, famous paintings, and precious jewels.
But that wasn't even the main event.
