Henrietta raised an eyebrow. “Oh. Well, thank you for that.”
Leticia was speechless.
“Are you finished?” Henrietta asked.
“Don’t get too comfortable,” Leticia said, annoyed. “Yosef is a perfectionist. He’s only being nice to you because he strives for perfection in everything he does.”
“I see. Anything else?” Henrietta asked.
Leticia sulked. “No. You can go.”
Henrietta nodded and turned to leave.
Finally, Jethro spoke, calling her back. “Henrietta.”
She turned around. “Yes?”
“We’re just concerned about Yosef,” Jethro said, his tone more measured. “He may seem invincible, but he carries a heavy burden. We just hope… that he has someone who will genuinely take care of him. Someone who will build a good life with him and stand by him, no matter what.”
So, this was the shadow of Britney, Henrietta thought. It wasn’t surprising. If she had her own baggage from Matteo, it was only natural that the Nash family had theirs.
Henrietta nodded, her expression cool. “I understand, and I agree. It’s getting late. You should both head home. Drive safely.”
With that, she turned and walked away.
Were they a pair of overprotective siblings? It seemed they idolized Yosef. That explained why they had been on their best behavior in front of their parents but had immediately cornered her for a warning, afraid she might somehow “bully” their perfect older brother.
For the sake of Yosef, and the kindness of Zelina and Ryland, Henrietta decided to let it slide. They were his family, and they deserved her patience and tolerance.
Henrietta got into the car and drove off.
Leticia turned to Jethro. “She’s better than Britney.”
Jethro raised an eyebrow.
“If that had been Britney, she would have started a fight with me right then and there, and then run off to tattle to Yosef,” Leticia explained. “Henrietta’s personality is actually quite good. She’s not subservient, but she was still polite and patient with us.”
Jethro nodded. “True. Let’s go. We don’t know if she’ll tell on us yet. If she does, just wait and see how Yosef deals with you.”
Leticia pouted. “As if you weren’t my accomplice. If she tells, Yosef will come for you too. And if he doesn’t, I’ll make sure to tell him you were in on it!”
Jethro gently tapped her on the head. “You were the ringleader.”
Leticia nudged her brother with her elbow. “Jethro, don’t you think… Henrietta seems less like a wife Yosef brought home and more like his student? Or maybe they were trained by the same master?”
Jethro looked confused.
“They’re both so calm and quiet, and so composed,” Leticia elaborated. “When I provoked her just now, I really thought she was going to argue with me. But she didn’t.”
