When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 140

“Alright,” Jethro said.

Yosef was about to hang up when Jethro stopped him again. “Wait, Yosef. Did… did Henrietta say anything to you?”

Yosef’s hand paused. “About what?”

“About the dinner, when our families met. Leticia and I saw her. Did she… mention us to you?”

“No,” Yosef said. “I’ve been busy. Our calls are usually brief. We don’t have time to discuss you. Why? Did you do something to her?”

“No, no!” Jethro denied it quickly. “Of course not! She’s the wife you finally managed to get. Do you think we’d dare bully her?”

“Do you think I believe you?” Yosef’s face hardened.

Jethro opened his mouth to protest, but the line went dead. He gritted his teeth. So Henrietta really hadn’t said anything. But his brother was no fool. The moment he’d asked, Yosef had known something was up. He would definitely ask Henrietta about it now.

Good. Let him ask. It would be a test. If Yosef brought it up, would Henrietta take the opportunity to complain?

...

That night, Leon watched as Jolie sat at her vanity, applying face cream.

After a long silence, he said, “Are you sure Henrietta is going to get back with Matteo? The more I watch, the less likely it seems. What if it’s a lost cause?”

“Impossible,” Jolie said confidently. “My brother was her first love, and he treated her like a goddess when they were together. Where else is she going to find a man who worships her like that? She’s not stupid. She’s just throwing a tantrum.”

Leon stroked his chin. “I hope you’re right. But I have a bad feeling. And dragging this out is risky, especially with Matteo still tangled up with Artina. If Henrietta finds out, it’s all over.”

Jolie climbed into bed. “She won’t. Artina’s not an idiot, and Matteo won’t let it happen. Anyway, I’ll be a star soon. Whatever happens between them won’t affect us.”

“You’re not very smart, are you?” Leon retorted.

Jolie’s temper flared, and she raised a hand to slap him. He caught her wrist. “Listen to me, Jolie. If we want to make it in Juno City, we have to marry into a top-tier family. Why do you think Matteo puts up with all this humiliation to win her back? Being a celebrity means nothing without real capital behind you. Henrietta can make you a star, and she can destroy you in an instant.”

The reality of his words hit Jolie, and she frowned. “So what do we do?”

“You’d better treat me right,” she said, her voice dripping with arrogance. “If it weren’t for me, you wouldn’t be a big-shot manager. All your old classmates and everyone back home are so impressed. They have to kiss up to you. And that’s all because of me.”

“Yes, yes, my little vixen,” Leon purred, his hands exploring her body. “Now let me see if I can’t just break you.”

...

The next day, Jolie went to the executive office. Since Henrietta had agreed to make her an actress, she had been surprisingly diligent, studying quietly at the company.

Henrietta had almost forgotten about her. Her sudden appearance was unexpected.

“Ms. Sargent,” Jolie said as she approached the desk.

Henrietta looked her over, noticing that her clothes were significantly more expensive than before.

“Is there something you need?” Henrietta asked, her expression cold and unwelcoming.
