Was Jolie breaking the bank today? Unlikely. What was Jolie's net worth, anyway? Could she really spend over a hundred thousand dollars just to treat the office? All to put on a show of affection and prove her relationship was solid? It seemed excessive.
Though curious, Henrietta didn't press the matter and headed straight for the executive office. As soon as she sat down, her phone rang. It was Charlotte.
"Jolie buys everyone coffee yesterday, and today Artina buys expensive coffee and dessert. What's the deal with these two?" Charlotte asked.
Henrietta settled into her office chair. "Artina bought it?"
"Yes! And it's ridiculously expensive coffee and cake," Charlotte said, her voice buzzing with excitement.
"Jolie can't afford this, but Artina certainly can," Henrietta mused.
"Being able to afford it is one thing, being willing to spend it is another. She hasn't been this extravagant in the past two years. I heard some gossip on set, you'll never guess what it is."
Henrietta's interest was piqued. "Tell me."
"Artina's getting engaged! Supposedly to some rich heir. He's the one who paid for all the coffee and cake."
"So that's it." Henrietta tapped her fingers on the desk. "But isn't she with Matteo?"
"No idea about that part," Charlotte said.
"Is Matteo on set? How did he react?" Henrietta asked.
"He's here," Charlotte replied. "He looked pretty shocked, and his face was grim. But he couldn't say much in front of everyone, so he just congratulated her. I was going to have someone keep an eye on them, see if Matteo would confront her privately, but Artina took the rest of the day off. Said she had to come to the office."
Henrietta slowly raised an eyebrow, a hint of humor in her tone. "To bring me coffee and cake?"
Charlotte slapped her thigh. "I think that's exactly the idea! She's been showing off all day. And she's wearing this incredibly expensive necklace. Judging by the quality, I'd say it's worth tens of millions."
Henrietta considered this. "The Harmon family is wealthy, but just barely. If she's this happy about an arranged marriage, the guy's family must be a significant step up from her own. In that context, a multi-million-dollar necklace and a lavish treat for the office isn't that surprising. A family like that wouldn't blink at such an expense."
"That's what I was thinking," Charlotte agreed. "I just can't imagine what unlucky soul got stuck with her. She probably decided Matteo just doesn't have what it takes."
Compared to a true dynasty, his humble origins were a world away.
"Mm," Henrietta hummed, lost in thought. After a moment, she added, "There's another possibility. It could be a smokescreen."
