"Are you sure it's real? Not just some act she and Matteo cooked up to throw everyone off?" Charlotte pressed, her voice laced with indignation.
"I saw the necklace," Henrietta said. "It's quite valuable. She could be borrowing it from a relative, I suppose. But she also told me that after this film, she's breaking her contract. Her fiancé is apparently starting a production company just for her, to turn her into an international star."
Charlotte was silent for a moment before muttering, "What a joke. We should find out who this family is and sink the whole deal! Let's see her try to show off then."
After a beat, she considered, "Then again... maybe she's just bluffing. It's easy to make big promises about starting a company, but who knows if it'll actually happen. She can say whatever she wants; it's not like she has to deliver. We don't even know if this fiancé is real."
"It doesn't matter," Henrietta replied coolly. "Real or not, it changes nothing. In fact, I hope it is real. There's no need to investigate; it would be a waste of resources. Because no matter who she marries, her fate is already sealed. The better the family she marries into, the sweeter her dreams, and the more agonizing her fall will be, don't you think?"
Charlotte's eyes lit up. "You're right! If she actually lands a perfect marriage, only to have it all crash and burn... Oh, I can't wait. She's the one who did all those terrible things; marrying someone rich won't save her. I just feel like she doesn't even deserve the chance at a good marriage. But you're right, it's probably all for show."
"I hope it's real," Henrietta reiterated. "The better her marriage, the more brutal the reckoning." "Okay, fair enough," Charlotte conceded. "We can't be sure for now, so we'll just have to wait and see. I'll have someone on set keep an eye on those two."
"Don't bother," Henrietta said. "Whatever they're plotting, their ending is already written. It's a dead end, and they don't have the ability to change it. We shouldn't risk tipping our hand. That would ruin all the fun."
Charlotte chuckled. "Got it."
Henrietta wasn't a vindictive person by nature, with her calm and detached personality. But once she decided to settle a score, she was relentless. She would drive her opponent to the brink of despair, then watch with a cold smile as they struggled, offering neither forgiveness nor mercy.
...
That evening, in the bedroom of Matteo's villa.
Matteo sat smoking, staring at Artina with a dark expression.
"What is the meaning of this? A few days ago, your family called you home, and you come back telling me you're getting engaged? You didn't even tell me beforehand. You just went and announced it to the whole company."
He was clearly agitated and angry. He had been thinking about dumping Artina so he could focus all his energy on winning Henrietta back. After Henrietta had humiliated Artina, he'd felt a certain disgust for her himself. But now that she was suddenly announcing an engagement, he felt a strange wave of panic. Was Artina leaving him too?
Faced with Matteo's fury, Artina just smiled sweetly. "What's wrong? Can't bear to let me go? So, the great Matteo only learns to cherish someone after he's lost them."
