Based on Zelina’s behavior last night, it was obvious she favored Henrietta. The thought of it made Artina sick.
She had no desire to go to that estate for dinner, to watch Zelina dote on Henrietta, or to even see Yosef and Henrietta together. Yosef—such a powerful man, the wealthiest in the world—had actually married Henrietta. Seeing them together would only make her chest ache with rage.
She had thought she would finally eclipse Henrietta, only to find herself overshadowed once again. It was infuriating!
Artina’s frustration twisted her pretty face, making her look even more pitiful. Jethro, watching her, felt a pang of sympathy.
She had cried herself to sleep last night, her eyes swollen and red. Exhausted, she had collapsed into bed the moment she got back to her apartment, so Jethro hadn't asked her anything. Now, as he waited with her before they had to leave for the Nash estate, he decided to broach the subject.
“What’s the real issue between you and Henrietta?” he asked. “I thought she was promoting you. Why is she so hostile?”
This was something Jethro truly didn't understand.
Artina didn't seem to, either. She thought for a moment, her face etched with sorrow. “She is promoting me, but that’s only because I’m the most bankable artist at her company. She’s backing me because I can generate the most profit. As for why our personal relationship is so strained…”
She trailed off, a flicker of memory in her eyes. Henrietta used to be quite good to her.
“I think it’s probably because of her ex-boyfriend,” Artina finally said.
Jethro’s brow furrowed.
“You saw him—the one she broke up with at her birthday party. He’s the male lead in the movie I’m currently filming. We worked together on another project before, where I was the supporting actress, but our on-screen chemistry created a lot of buzz online. For this new film, the studio is intentionally playing up our chemistry for publicity. I think that’s why she’s targeting me.”
Jethro’s frown deepened. He and Leticia had tried to warn Henrietta about her ex-boyfriend.
“Are you sure?” Jethro asked, his voice tight. “She’s my sister-in-law now.”
Artina put on an innocent, almost guilty expression. “Actually, before you came into the picture, I… I tried to pursue her ex-boyfriend, Matteo, the award-winning actor.”
The confession darkened Jethro’s handsome features. He was clearly displeased.
Jethro glanced around the apartment. “This place is far too small for you,” he commented. He’d thought the same thing last night when he brought her home but had held his tongue because of how exhausted she was. He had simply watched over her until she fell asleep.
At his words, Artina blushed. “It’s a little small, but it’s enough for me.”
Jethro tapped her nose playfully. “It’s not even as big as the bathroom in my bedroom.”
Her cheeks flushed a deeper red, and she worried he was looking down on her. A wave of sadness washed over her as she mumbled, “I’m not as rich as you are.”
Jethro smiled. “Come on. I’m buying you a villa. And we’ll get you a new car while we’re at it.”
Artina, who had just been feeling slighted, was now utterly stunned. “What? You’re… buying me a house and a car?”
“You silly girl,” he said, nodding. “That necklace you’re wearing is worth hundreds of millions, yet you’re living in a place like this? Let’s go. Y-N Group has some ultra-luxury furnished villas. You can pick one in a style you like.”
Artina’s eyes widened in disbelief.
