After a long moment, he finally spoke. “If her ex-boyfriend hadn’t done something unforgivable, her decision not to run him out of her company, or out of Juno City, would speak to her noble character. However, I recall her mentioning on the day we met that she was the one who was hurt or betrayed, though she didn’t offer specifics.”
Henrietta had also mentioned a plan for revenge that would unfold in a few months, one that would cost her some of her dignity. The idea of her having lingering feelings was absurd.
“Yes,” Calvert nodded. “Your analysis is spot-on, Mr. Nash.”
Just then, the desk phone rang. Calvert answered it, listened for a moment, and then turned to Yosef.
“Mr. Nash, a woman named Jolie Coleman is here. She claims to be Henrietta’s ex-boyfriend’s sister and says she has something urgent to tell you. She’s causing a scene in the lobby and refusing to leave.”
A short while later, Jolie was escorted into the president’s office, her face a mask of shock. The space was immense, a fusion of luxury and cutting-edge design. But it was the man sitting behind the massive desk who truly stunned her. Yosef’s commanding presence was a force of nature, filling every corner of the vast office. He was the undisputed king of this sprawling empire.
As the secretary led her forward, Jolie’s legs felt like they might give out.
Calvert stepped forward. “What did you want to say?”
Jolie stared at Yosef, his powerful aura scrambling her thoughts. For a few seconds, she forgot why she was there.
Finally, she managed to speak, her voice trembling slightly. “Mr. Nash, since my brother found out Henrietta got married, he’s been devastated. He’s fallen ill and even… wants to take his own life.”
The absurdity of her statement made Yosef laugh. He fixed his gaze on her. “And?”
His cold, sharp look sent a shiver down Jolie’s spine. Fear, awe, and a strange sense of longing warred within her. The man’s charisma was overwhelming, a raw, magnetic power that was both terrifying and intoxicatingly attractive. He was not just powerful; he was breathtakingly handsome.
When she failed to respond, Yosef’s expression hardened. “What is your purpose here? Did you come just to waste my time?”
This was the chasm between ordinary people and titans like him. He had no time for nonsense.
Jolie flinched as if struck. Steeling herself, she let tears stream down her face. “Could you please… please give Henrietta… back to my brother?”
Yosef’s expression remained unchanged. “Is he dead?” he asked suddenly.
Tears streamed down Jolie’s face as she shook her head. “No, but… he’s going to kill himself. I’m begging you…”
She dropped to her knees, a move she thought would make her appear kind, compassionate, and pitiable—the kind of woman men felt compelled to protect.
But Yosef didn’t even spare her a second glance. “Then tell him to hurry up and die. No one is stopping him.”
He turned to Calvert. “Get her out of here. And make sure she never sets foot in this building again.”
Joaquin placed the roses on her desk with a smile. “Long time no see, Ms. Sargent.”
With a cool, dismissive expression, Henrietta picked up the bouquet and tossed it into the nearby trash can with a loud thud.
Joaquin’s smile faltered for a second, but he quickly recovered, a playful smirk returning to his lips. “Still so wild. I have to say… it’s incredibly attractive.”
Henrietta cut straight to the point. “Yosef is back in town.”
Joaquin raised an eyebrow. “Oh? And what of it?”
“You’ve got a lot of nerve,” she said coldly.
His smile widened. “How else could I win your heart?”
Her face hardened. “He’ll be here to pick me up soon. You might want to stick around.”
“Mr. Nash and I have always gotten along,” Joaquin replied breezily.
Henrietta let out a cold, humorless laugh. “You seem to have a short memory, Mr. Leland. How did that slap from Calvert feel last time?”
