When Henrietta arrived at the CEO’s office, Winona Stetson was just getting there too.
Winona’s eyes lit up when she saw her, scanning Henrietta from head to toe. Before she could say anything, a knock came at the door. To Henrietta’s annoyance, Joaquin Leland entered, holding a massive bouquet of roses. She sank into her office chair with a grimace.
Completely shameless, Joaquin walked over and placed the flowers on her desk. “For you.”
As usual, Henrietta immediately tossed them into the trash. Joaquin didn’t get angry; he just sat down and smiled at her.
Henrietta stared back, unimpressed. Did he think his smile was charming? What a creep. It was hideous.
“You’re… looking very well today,” Joaquin said, trying to start a conversation. He added, “Very beautiful. More beautiful than ever.”
Henrietta ignored him.
But Winona stepped in, picking up the thread. “He’s right, Henrietta. Why are you glowing today? You’re radiant, your eyes are sparkling, and your cheeks are so rosy. You seem… different.”
Henrietta pressed her lips together, a little shy. “Different how?”
Winona tapped her chin. “It’s like… you have a certain womanly glow. Come on, spill. Did you and Mr. Nash get up to some trouble last night?”
Winona was deliberately saying this. It was girl talk, not meant for Joaquin’s ears, but she said it precisely to scare him off. Besides, she’d seen them together yesterday and noticed a comfortable, high-class harmony between them. Yosef might be cool and distant, but he had an almost majestic sense of protectiveness and affection for Henrietta. Winona knew they hadn't consummated their marriage, but today, Henrietta was visibly different. So, she had a hunch…
Henrietta understood Winona’s intentions. She had been a little embarrassed at first, but now there was no need. She nodded directly. “Yes.”
Winona’s eyes widened in surprise. “Really?!”
Meanwhile, Joaquin’s smiling face turned thunderous. “Really,” Henrietta confirmed, treating Joaquin like he was invisible. “We were together last night. And… it was Mr. Nash’s first time, too.”
She bit her lip, a faint flush creeping up her neck—not because of Joaquin, but from the playful heat of Winona's teasing.
Joaquin's face darkened another shade, but no one was paying him any attention.
The two friends were engrossed in their chat.
“Oh my god, seriously?!” Winona covered her mouth.
Henrietta bit her lip slightly. “Mmm-hmm. Seriously.”
Winona was practically buzzing with excitement. “He never slept with Britney Leland? Wow, Ms. Leland really dropped the ball on that one.”
Winona, however, had no filter. “How long? Hours?”
Henrietta’s jaw tightened. Hours? Did she want her to die?
She cleared her throat. “I didn’t time it. It was… a long time.” At least, it felt long to her. He’d swept her into a whirlwind of ecstasy repeatedly, leaving her completely spent while he seemed to only be getting started.
Seeing Henrietta hesitate, Winona pleaded playfully, “Come on, tell me, tell me.”
Hesitantly, Henrietta finally mumbled, “Let’s just say… I lost track of time because of how intense he was.”
Winona let out a low whistle. Just as she was about to say something else, Henrietta cut in, “By the way, Winona, can you do me a huge favor and help me get some Plan B? I’m too embarrassed to go myself.”
Winona raised an eyebrow. “What kind of medicine?”
Henrietta mouthed the words.
Winona’s eyes went wide. “You’re not planning on having kids? Does… does Mr. Nash know you’re planning to take that?”
Henrietta frowned slightly. She hadn’t dared to mention this to Yosef.
