“Your so-called ‘help’ was completely unnecessary both times,” Henrietta retorted. “I never asked you to do anything. You’re the one acting crazy and causing all this trouble, so how can you pin the debt on me? I don’t accept.”
Joaquin ignored her protest. “I want you to have dinner with me, just the two of us. It’s such a small favor. Surely you won’t refuse?”
The request finally pushed Henrietta over the edge.
She slammed her hand on the desk. “As the head of the Leland family, I expect you to have some self-respect! I am a married woman! Why on earth would I have dinner alone with you? If you continue to pester me, meddle in my affairs, and spew this nonsense, I will have no choice but to stop showing you any courtesy!”
Joaquin, however, remained calm. “And how do you plan on doing that? By having Mr. Nash come and deal with me?”
“You should know, Mr. Nash has already put a hold on the project between the Leland family and Y-N Group. He’s also been quietly sabotaging my other ventures.”
“Over the next year, I project I won't see a dime of profit; I’ll likely lose nearly billions upon billions. A fine piece of work by your husband, isn't it?”
Henrietta froze. So… Yosef had already made his move?
She took a deep breath and squared her shoulders.
“Then why are you still so bold as to harass me and demand a private dinner? What do you take me for?”
Joaquin just smiled without a word.
Henrietta paused, then a small, sharp smile touched her lips. “What’s the matter? You want to lose a hundred billion in a year? The Leland family has deep pockets, I’m sure you can afford it. But for how long?”
Joaquin’s smile widened. “It seems, Ms. Sargent, there are some things you don’t fully understand. As long as my sister, Britney Leland, is in the picture, Mr. Nash won’t, and can’t, let me lose for too long. And he will never… let the Leland family… go bankrupt. Never.”
His words finally made Henrietta’s expression change.
She forced herself to remain steady. “What are you trying to say? That Mr. Nash has a soft spot for the past? But he married me, not your sister.”
“Why don’t you go home and ask Mr. Nash yourself?” Joaquin taunted. “What’s wrong? Are you afraid?”
Henrietta scoffed. “None of your business.”
“Let me be blunt,” Joaquin said. “Even though Mr. Nash knows I’m pursuing you, he hasn’t completely crushed the Leland family. And you know, with his power, he could wipe out ten Leland families overnight. Why do you think he hasn’t? Take a guess.”
“If you have something to say, say it. Otherwise, get out,” Henrietta snapped.
Joaquin chuckled. “You’re angry, Ms. Sargent. You’re quite beautiful when you’re angry.”
Henrietta ignored him.
“You want to know the reason, but you don’t dare ask him yourself,” Joaquin continued. “So… agree to have one dinner with me, and I’ll tell you. Whatever you want to know, I’ll tell you everything.”
