When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 307

The next morning, as Henrietta and Yosef were getting ready, Yosef received a phone call. After a brief, clipped conversation, he hung up, his brow slightly furrowed. "I have to go abroad," he told Henrietta. For some reason, a wave of disappointment washed over her. She couldn't pinpoint why she was suddenly unhappy. Was it that she didn't want him to leave? After all, they had been getting along so well lately, spending every day together. She recalled the time before he returned to the country; she had never felt this way, always insisting that his work was important. Something was quietly changing. Was she, over time, unconsciously falling for him? It felt like… maybe she was. She wasn't sure if it was love or if she had just grown accustomed to the comfort of his companionship. People are like that; self-sufficient and untethered when alone, but once they experience companionship, they grow used to life as a pair. She couldn't help but wonder if this shared life would eventually kindle a flame in him that matched her own. Seeing her silence, Yosef explained, "Something has come up that requires my personal attention." That meant it was serious, something that Leslie and Marlin couldn't handle on their own. "Okay, I understand," Henrietta said, snapping back to the present. "Are you going to miss me?" Yosef asked, cupping her face, a faint smile gracing his usually cool features. Henrietta flushed. "No, of course not. Work is important." Yosef leaned in and kissed her. "Don't worry, I'll be back soon." They shared a long, passionate kiss before pulling apart. Henrietta was slightly breathless. "Don't rush. Take care of your work first. I'll be waiting for you. This place doesn't feel like home when you're gone." Those words were a balm to his soul. Home… always there. Yosef kissed her again, fiercely this time, pressing her down onto the bed. In these moments, the commanding dominance hidden deep within him came to the forefront. He was energetic, passionate, and tireless. Henrietta, typically composed and strong-willed, melted completely under his touch. The way she cried out in pleasure drove him to lose control every time. She was definitely going to be late for work, but it was her company, so it didn't matter. An hour later, Yosef called Calvert to arrange the flight. Henrietta decided not to go to the office just yet and personally drove him to the airport. They whispered softly to each other in the car on the way. When it was time to part, their kiss was passionate and lingering. Yosef found himself not wanting to leave. But the matter at hand was too important; he had to go. Calvert, waiting outside, thought to himself how inseparable the two had become, reluctant to part for even a short while. As the departure time drew near, he finally tapped on the window. Henrietta gently pushed Yosef away. "It's time. You should go." Yosef's eyes were dark and intense as he locked his gaze on her, reigning in his emotions. "Alright." With that, he got out of the car. Once Yosef was on the plane and it had taken off, Henrietta instructed her driver, "Take me to the office." Aboard the aircraft, Yosef seemed to have second thoughts. "Calvert," he asked, "do you think she would have been willing to come with me if I had asked?" In his mind, Henrietta's job was something she could do or not do. Calvert, enjoying the moment, deliberately replied, "Your wife is a leading lady, sir. She has her own career to pursue." Yosef shot him a displeased look. "Get back to work."
