She was losing her mind, about to come apart at the seams. It was then that Dexter spoke up, his voice cracking. “Don’t Henrietta and Matteo have the same blood type?”
It was as if Dexter’s words had jolted Pamela out of her daze. Her head snapped toward Henrietta.
Artina added excitedly, “But Ms. Sargent refuses to donate blood to save him!”
In an instant, Pamela lunged forward and collapsed at Henrietta’s feet, sobbing hysterically, her forehead nearly touching the cold tile as she pleaded. “Ms. Sargent, Ms. Sargent, I’m begging you! Whatever grudges you have with Matteo, please, can’t you put them aside for now? Just save him. Please, save him!”
“You can’t just watch him die! How can you? There are only ten minutes left! I’m begging you, please!” As a mother, her desperation was raw and terrifying. She was so consumed by fear that she just kept clinging to her, her dignity stripped bare by desperation.
Dexter quickly knelt beside her, joining the desperate plea. “Yes, Ms. Sargent! Whatever we’ve done, no matter how much you dislike us… even if you and Matteo have broken up, this is a human life! Please, we’re begging you, save our son!”
Henrietta’s fists clenched, but her resolve didn't waver. Her refusal was absolute. “I’ve already told you, I will not give him my blood. The other supply is on its way. If it doesn’t make it in time, then that is his fate.”
Her words were like a dagger to the hearts of the two parents. The shock was so profound that they simply collapsed onto the floor, utterly speechless.
“But he did it to save you!” Pamela suddenly shrieked.
