In truth, within the confines of a marriage, love was perhaps the most insignificant factor of all.
Life was a long journey. What truly mattered was having someone who would fiercely hold your hand, no matter what disasters came your way.
Yosef was captivated by her response; he claimed her lips fiercely and increased his seductive rhythm.
The next day was Sunday.
Henrietta received a call from Sabrina first thing in the morning.
With Quinton's wedding approaching, the Sargent family had a mountain of preparations to handle.
As the only daughter, and the true powerhouse behind the Sargent family's business, Henrietta's presence was mandatory.
She had to go home to oversee the arrangements, as they needed her final say on countless details.
She got up and got ready, and Yosef made a point of escorting her to the family estate.
Quinton was already there.
The moment the couple arrived, Sabrina, wearing her reading glasses and clutching a notebook, pulled Henrietta onto the sofa to dive into the wedding logistics.
Weddings were incredibly tedious, filled with endless intricacies that men were notoriously bad at managing.
Hector wisely invited Yosef to join him in the study for a game of chess and some tea.
As for Quinton, it was his wedding, so he naturally stayed behind to listen in on the planning.
Yosef didn't utter a word of complaint. He simply nodded and followed Hector into the study.
A short while later, Quinton's phone buzzed with a work call.
After listening to the person on the other end, he looked momentarily stunned before replying, "Alright, I understand. Move forward with the standard protocol."
By then, Sabrina and Henrietta had mostly wrapped up their discussion.
Quinton turned his gaze to Henrietta. "Henrietta."
She lifted her brow in inquiry.
He gestured for her to sit next to him.
Henrietta hesitated for a fraction of a second, but ultimately stood up and casually took the seat beside him.
Quinton lowered his voice. "Mr. Nash just released the project he had been stalling. Did you... pull some strings for me?"
Yosef had previously accused Quinton of backing her into a corner.
But wasn't Quinton simply doing his absolute best to find balance and step away gracefully?
"Yeah." Henrietta's smile grew warmer. "Congratulations, Quinton. I truly want you to be happy."
A lump formed in Quinton's throat. He desperately wanted to say, I only care about your happiness.
But... he swallowed the words down, settling for a quiet, "Yeah, I will be."
As long as she was happy, he would find his own peace.
So... he would be fine.
Human relationships were brutally pragmatic. You only had things in common when your lives actually intersected.
Once those intersections faded, the shared conversations vanished right along with them.
Having reached that inevitable turning point, the two of them simply had nothing left to say.
Right on cue, Sabrina called out to Henrietta, giving her the perfect excuse to walk back over.
