When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 377

Yosef nodded, his voice heavy. "I understand."

Winona raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised that his only reaction was a simple acknowledgment.

After a moment of thought, she said, "Maybe you really do have your reasons. But Henrietta's approach works, too. Just ignoring it is fine."

The conflict was still there, but as long as it didn't escalate, they could just leave it be.

Perhaps it would just come down to seeing who cracked first and forced the issue.

That afternoon.

Yosef picked Henrietta up and took her back to Elysium Manor.

It wasn't until they had both freshened up and gotten into bed that Yosef brought it up. "I went to see Winona today."

Henrietta looked at him in surprise. "Oh?"

The moment the word left her lips, the man reached out and pulled her into his arms.

Then came his low, murmuring voice. "So you was trying to protect me all along."

Henrietta froze.

She didn't speak, and neither did Yosef.

The two of them simply held each other.

After a while, Henrietta finally spoke. "She told you everything?"

Yosef released her slightly and nodded. "Yeah."

Henrietta wasn't sure whether to sigh or ask more questions.

After thinking it over, she said, "Don't worry about them. Let's just leave things as they are for now."

With that, she prepared to lie down and go to sleep.

But Yosef stopped her. "Don't you want to know why I'm being so lenient with the Leland family?"

Henrietta paused, then sat back up. "If you're willing to tell me, I'm willing to listen."

Yosef took her hand and lowered his gaze. "Britney... genuinely saved my life."

"My legs were crushed, so I couldn't walk. But staying near the car was practically a death sentence since the flames were inching closer to the gas tank, threatening to blow at any second. I was on the verge of passing out, just barely clinging to consciousness."

"She's petite and fragile, and I was dead weight. She put everything she had into pulling, dragging, and practically carrying me to a safe distance."

"The car did end up exploding, but we were safe. I couldn't hold on any longer and blacked out. The doctors later told me she had practically carried me on her back down the road, terrified that any delay would cost me my life. Her doing that did save precious time before the ambulance arrived."

"But because she pushed herself so hard carrying me, she suffered a severe spinal injury."

Yosef's tone was incredibly calm.

As if he were just recounting a distant memory.

Without much emotion.

Or perhaps, just a trace.

But it was very faint.

Henrietta was genuinely astounded by the story.

To suffer a spinal injury... it was obvious Britney had truly risked her own life for his.
