"Oh," Winona Stetson nodded.

"How much do you know? Can you tell me?" Yosef Nash asked.

Winona fell silent, looking somewhat torn.

Yosef wasn't in a rush, quietly waiting for her to gather her thoughts.

After a moment, Winona said, "I honestly don't know if I should say anything. Henrietta is my best friend. We're incredibly close. If she doesn't want to talk about it, then I absolutely shouldn't either. I should be keeping my mouth shut."

Hearing this, Yosef frowned.

He could, of course, use his usual ruthless methods to force her to speak.

But Winona was Henrietta's friend, which meant his hands were tied.

After a brief silence, Yosef said, "Fine. You don't have to say anything. If neither of you will speak, then there's no need for me to know. It's reassuring that Henrietta has a loyal friend like you."

Caught between a rock and a hard place, Winona offered a bitter smile. "Don't tease me, Yosef. If I stay quiet, it's for Henrietta. But if I speak, that's for her sake, too. I don't want to see her unhappy, stuck in the middle and torn in both directions."

Yosef's frown deepened. "Torn in both directions?"

"Yeah," Winona nodded. "I shouldn't say it, but I want to."

Yosef hadn't expected her to be willing to talk. "Go ahead," he urged.

Winona took a deep breath and laid out the entire situation clearly, from beginning to end.

As she reached the end of the story, Yosef's expression turned incredibly dark, his gaze turning somber.

Yosef frowned.

Winona went on, "You and Britney are exes. The past is the past, and usually, it's not worth bringing up. But Henrietta doesn't know the specifics of your history together, so she has no idea how deep your feelings for Britney truly run."

"And with Joaquin acting so confident, she was probably terrified that asking you directly would back her into an incredibly awkward corner."

"Logically speaking," Winona said, looking Yosef dead in the eye, "if you chose your ex-girlfriend over your wife, your wife would be completely humiliated. To be blunt, it wouldn't be unreasonable for a couple to split up over something like that, would it?"

Yosef remained silent.

But his lack of a rebuttal was as good as an agreement.

Winona lowered her voice. "So, Henrietta didn't want to put herself in that position, which is why she didn't ask. Or perhaps... to put it even more bluntly, she just didn't want this to be the reason you two fall apart. That's why she chose to run away from the problem and ignore it entirely."
