When Two Winters Met (Henrietta and Yosef) novel Chapter 44

At the same time, she was tempted by Matteo's plan to empty the Sargent family's coffers and enjoy the wealth for herself.

But how long would that take? Five years? Ten? Maybe even longer? Or perhaps Matteo was just lying to placate her. The moment he reconciled with Henrietta, he would kick her to the curb.

Artina remained silent, deeply conflicted.

Matteo said, “You should go. Don’t be seen so close to me in public.”

Artina stomped her foot in frustration. “You two have already broken up! What’s wrong with me being close to you?”

Matteo shot back, annoyed, “I’m trying to win her back! You being close to me is just going to sabotage everything!”

Suddenly, an idea struck Artina. “How is it sabotage? Everyone knows you broke up, so it’s perfectly reasonable for me to be seen with you now. Can’t I just be someone who admires you and is pursuing you now that you’re single?”

“You…” Matteo frowned. “What are you getting at? Artina, I warned you, causing trouble won’t do you any good! Don’t drag your whole family down with you!”

Artina retorted, “Are you an idiot? You wanting to get back with her is your business. How does my pursuit of you conflict with that? I’m helping you! With me pursuing you while you’re trying to win her back, won’t that ignite Henrietta’s competitive spirit and possessiveness?”

Matteo fell silent, tempted by the idea. But he was also worried Artina would stir up trouble. Her wild-horse personality was far too unpredictable.

Pamela chimed in, “Ms. Harmon, your idea isn’t bad. But you’d better not be foolish and try to sabotage this.”

“Exactly!” Jolie piped up.

He and Artina had been discreet, but the chat logs were the one loose end.

Pamela adopted a commanding tone. “That’s the best way. But don’t be rash or nervous. It’s not an unforgivable sin for a man to make a mistake. Even if Artina makes a scene, we’ll stick to the story that she’s a shameless homewrecker who seduced you, maybe even drugged you. As long as you focus all your attention on Henrietta now, this Artina girl is no threat. I have plenty of ways to deal with her!”

Matteo nodded, a wave of confidence washing over him.

Pamela now despised Artina. If that little tramp hadn't seduced her son, would he have made such a mistake? Her son would have been completely devoted to Henrietta, treating her like a queen—they had all seen how good he was to her for years!

Her son had just been momentarily blinded, unable to resist the temptation of a younger girl. If Artina hadn't seduced him, he never would have strayed. And if he hadn't strayed, they would have had their fairytale engagement at the banquet a few days ago. Her family would have ascended along with him, already enjoying wealth and prestige, the envy of their entire village!
